The box was reman. by a business in Winnipeg called Autoline. I ordered the box at a Piston Ring location nearby. If this is not a Mopar steering box but was accidently put in a cardboard box with number 55-6546 on the label would the mounting holes to the frame and metal tubing to the...
...car was in pieces when I got it, assembled it cranked the motor over and it was leaking from both seals, not a drip a steady flow, bought a Borgeson and put the T/A box and pitman on the shelf with my other high dollar stuff. Talked to the past owner and he stated he could send it back but I...
If this is a fast ratio at a cheap price, I hope it is also durable.
The Borgeson is a standard 3 1/2 turns but is still considered a “Fast Ratio” of 14 to 1.
If the Lares unit is a full turn tighter, that could be around 11.75 to 12 to 1.
I had the longer Fast Ratio Pitman and idler on my...
...B-body steering column have a lower bearing? Mine doesn't have one, and I haven't found any information about it online. I've installed the Borgeson steering box, and the angle from the shaft to the gearbox looks odd. The steering column, and therefore the shaft, are positioned via the column...
...I do have a kit with new o rings. Not much online that I could find, but how difficult to IRAN? Should I just swap out with Steer and Gear or similar? Not interested in Borgeson for this car, trying to stay close to original.
Advice much appreciated from those who “have been here done that”.
Cap, I answered your question in post #34. Look at pic #2, it shows the 1/4" washer I added to bring it in line. As I said, I quizzed Peter about this back in 2014 and thought they fixed the issue back then.
mine is in a whole differnt spot the mount was dead nuts next to the box. i tryed to do it that way first but was way to far off. by like 4 inches. im guessing the small block makes the deal easy for ya.
Besides my own, I’ve recently been involved with another BAC/Borgeson conversion, both ‘72s and using the BAC coupler. In both cases a very loud annoying hydraulic noise transmitted up the column, starting after a few minutes of running time. BAC exchanged them both, and in both cases the second...
I have the borgeson with the bergman connector. the 11-1 slop is only with the engine off. with pressure it works fine. I dont have to correct the direction all the time like on the sloppy old box.
A recirculating ball steering box will by design never give you the feedback a rack and pinion...
My only criticism of the kit is the directions.. in the small block kit it doesn't show where spacers do and they are pretty self explanatory except 1 washer... had to pull the whole pump back out to put in one washer... still not 100% happy with belt alignment but i'm sure it's my fault.
I grew tired of the high resistance of my Firm Feel Stage 3 with Fast Ratio arms. When I swapped in my Borgeson, it was a nice change.
I had not heard of anyone that went back and shimmed their Saginaw once they installed a Borgeson. I've been under the impression that the Borgeson needs all the...
So you removed the box without pulling the manifold first? If so, that might indicate I should reinstall the manifold before trying to get the PS box in. Interesting.
...There's a 275/50 Nitto and then there's some DR's and then these ET Street S/S in a 305/45/17.
And yes, I do want to move from 15" tires. I've put on Bilsteins, aftermarket torsion bars, and want to do the borgeson ps box. I want more from the tires than 15's can do, at 28" diameter at least.
Hi,
I just had a shop replace my original steering box with a Borgeson. Should I have them toss the old box or are these worth saving? Do these affect numbers matching?
Thanks,
