You're missing the dust cover/ inspection cover at the bottom of the bell housing. It extends beneath the starter as well, so someone left it off.

Hard to tell the depth from pictures without a straight edge across it. Not sure a stock oil pick up has a lot of clearance to the pan bottom. I agree with hunt2elk, I also purchased a Hoppy aiming kit real cheap a few years ago on Ebay. I've used it on 3 of my cars, its easy to use and makes a big difference in night time visibility. One heck of a lot better than trying to self aim on a garage door, that doesn't work well at all.

Pull the glove loose at the wrist and blow into the opening and peel it back. I have reused nitrile gloves many times. Reusing things probably is in my genetic background. I quite often put talcum powder on my hands before I put the gloves on.
