If the heads end up under 70, you could add a little thickness to the gasket to mitigate that some. A .060” gasket is 2.2cc bigger than a .051”.

Okay put the adjustable end back on where it was. That shifter box is not original the levers have really big holes.

If they don't leak, they're fine. If it concerns you, get the right fittings and re-do, at your leisure.

I have a terrible sense of smell too. I blame mine from back in the 70s & 80s working on diesel trucks and tractors we would run them in the shop during the winter with the doors closed until the exhaust was so bad you couldn't breathe and your eyes were watering. No exhaust clearing system...
