The adjustable end of 1-2 shift rod should be reinstalled so you can see the retaining clip.
The other end of 1-2 shift rod just remove the shift lever nut and flip the shift lever over and reinstall it.
That used cap you show in post 20 looks like you have high resistance in your secondary (high voltage) ignition circuit. You also mentioned that you lost your headlights and half of your dash lights. Those two symptoms taken together sounds like a bad ground somewhere. Check your battery cables...
I have a miserable sense of smell. Probably a blessing in many ways. But made me paranoid in my truck driving days, smelling trouble often ment the game was over. Burning brake linings, I used the fire extinguisher, burned up transmission, not so cheap.
a 500' engine with good heads "flow354@.600" , 10;3 comp. , .600 lift solid roller , fuel inj. , does not have any worries about low end torque ,
zero deck , .036 head clearance (steel rods) ..will have no problem with low end torque !!!-ask me how I know>>>
