No oil pressure on start up after oil change.

...correctly before proceeding. Cranked it with a remote switch (ignition off). I could see that the air bubbles in the oil pressure gauge line were not moving. Cranked for 10-15 seconds, no oil pressure. I didn’t like that, so I pull the distributor and primed with a drill. Came right up to...

    Oil pump question

Ever watch an oil sight glass for a sleeve bearing where you increase flow and pressure and all of a sudden it starts foaming? I have. No foaming at lower flow and pressure. Does the same thing happen inside an engine? How do you know? Like I said, talk to a tribologist if you want to get...

No oil pressure on start up after oil change.

I had this happen on my 383 recently. The engine had a full rebuild and I was changing out the break in oil. Put in new Penn Grade oil and WIX filter and once the engine started, no pressure and lots of upper end clatter. I shut off the engine and checked to be sure I didn't have a catastrophic...

Does this look like higher capacity pan?

No oil pressure doesn't care about 6 quarts or 8 quarts it just makes sure at HIGH RPM the pan isn't sucked dry..

Does this look like higher capacity pan?

The SunPro oil pressure gauge idles at 75psi. I can’t be sure the gauge is correct but if it’s accurate is that too high?

    Oil recommendation

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too - at cold start, I would want as minimum friction as possible. But, the shop recommended this combo to increase oil pressure. I was thinking 'if' I did run the straight 40w, then no Lucas additive as the 40w here in PA should be thick enough. But, again...

    No Start

More to the story now. When it started, the fuel, oil pressure and temp. gauges weren't working. FFS! popped the cluster out again and pushed on the power supply to those gauges. Buttoned it back up and tested again. Gauges work but no start! I reached down and pushed the ignition harness plug...

Best sealant for camshaft core plug ??

No, there is NOT 100 psi there. Very little pressure actually, just crankcase blowby pressure. See the 2 holes in the back of the cam brg? That allows the oil to flow back into the pan so there is no pressure build up. Dan, Are you sure the leak was from the cam plug? Sil should have sealed it...

Does this look like higher capacity pan?

Some would say it's too high but I have no issues with it. Probably just tight clearances with a high pressure pump. Could be heavy weight oil too.

    On to the NEXT issue….

68 charger… i have no interest at this time to tear apart dash to troubleshoot factory gages, so bought aftermarket gages, oil pressure, voltage, water temp, fuel gage…. 3 of 4 work perfectly. Gas gage- not so much. Purchased correct ohms gage for Mopar…has excellent ground, turn on ignition and...

Oil pressure gauge goes to zero

Nope. Have you ever actually installed a mech oil pressure gauge ? On your, or a customers, car ? I'd like to know where vibration will cause the copper line to crack and break. I wonder if you know what to do to avoid that condition.

400 Stroker Rebuild Sounds Like a Bucket of Bolts

If you do the math the side clearance isn't the restriction of oil exit flow at the rod bearing. It's the rod bearing to crank clearance. I've never talked to anybody that ran wide side clearance where it caused an issue. Doug

Can a High Volume oil pump suck the floor up?

This question is pertaining to my last about distance from the oil pan floor, so if the oil pump pick up is too close to the oil pan sump floor, can it suck it up to a certain degree? I ask this because both my old pick up and new one supplied with the deep sump 7 quart pan are hanging a 1/2...

    383 low oil pressure

Hey guys, I just got a "new" to me 1968 Charger with a "rebuilt" 383. Come to find out the guy I got it from had 0 idea on how to build the car and did a lot of things very half assed. The oil pressure gauge in the car doesn't work so hooked a mechanical gauge to it. I think the car sat for...

Can a High Volume oil pump suck the floor up?

To add more cooking oil to the fire, here's another mention. LOL. I can see this whole thing turning into a food for thought fight. LOL. NO NO NO!!!!! 1/4" is way too tight. Please don't set it to that. 3/8" min. 1/2" max. I shoot for 7/16" sure 1/8", 1/4" etc will work, but here's what...
