Ya dude! Back when I was running the steelies and RWL tires. I'm always changing stuff up, plus those things were like driving on ice!
I wouldn't put slappers on my car either but the fact that this meathead couldn't tell the difference between that and my maybe-a-little-low-hanging mufflers is...
Today after work I made a run to the store for supplies in the '68.
Afterwards as I approached my car two guys were checking it out and I heard one of them say, "only an idiot puts slapper bars on a Mopar...."
I replied, "those are my mufflers dipshit..."
Boy I sure slept on this one! Don't know how I've missed this thread Carl, looks like it's coming along nicely. Great build!
Great pics from LA too! I woulda/coulda/shoulda but the fall one's pretty much always been a no-go for me, between work and grapes (which equal work lol)...
There's a member that's been a seller for quite awhile here, ''mopar mafia'' apparently from Leitchfield also...not much feedback but all positive.
Same guy maybe/maybe not? In a town with just a spoonfull over 6000 people, two guys selling lots of Mopar parts seems like quite the coincidence?
Agreed!
My buddy made some cradles that you put under the tires once the car is jacked up, they probably raise the car oohhh about 2 feet...not as nice as a lift of course but the car "thinks" it's sitting on it's wheels.
Yeah....I know. Like I said I haven't tried his method. I guess you'd have to hit him up on why he thinks it's better, but like many things on these old cars, the longer guys think about it and the more time they have for the internet, the more 'theories' they can concoct! I've come across some...
You can relax, they wouldn't have fit over the dowel pins if they were upside down....you didn't mention the new cam's specs, but if you only run 8 deg initial timing, you need more. That can definitely cause a too-hot condition that wasn't there before the swap. Timing and tune.
Another vote for the home-made square/rectangle tubing approach.
The nice thing about the USCT kit though, they look factory when all done....good route if you're still in the build stage/everything's apart, interior out etc.
They will both serve the purpose.
Birdsong has another variation he...
I too had an intermittent engine dying issue a few years back. All electrical good, tested and checked all components, knew it wasn't fuel issue.
Turned out to be the old factory ignition switch, like @bobfake posted about above.
Bought a replacement from Napa for $21.00 and it's been fine...
They're rounded, just not with a big radius, all edges smoothed with a flapper it just doesn't look like it in the pics. Yessir we don't want any pokes or sliced fingers!
