Press the bearing on first. It should bottom on the shoulder. Then press the collar on. There will be a little play, which is taken up once both axles all installed and the adjuster adjusted.
Unported factory MW heads don’t really flow all that great, they’re just “bigger” than their non-MW cousins(but not necessarily bigger where it matters).
Imo, if there aren’t rules dictating which heads you can use, it’s just “better” to start out with some aluminum aftermarket pieces.

Great minds think alike, I was going to go get a couple to lay my hood on upside down for taking it apart, then I spotted the big sheets of bubble wrap from AMD parts, so I rolled them up instead. Mission to Wally World aborted.
Okay full disclosure, lol. I took my original and backup motors apart and just put them back together and they worked. So the motors worked but the unit was not working when installed and mounted. Yup bad ground, looked okay but I sanded away more paint and it worked.
A bigger oil pan is one of the first mods I do to any hi perf engine I build. I try for seven quart capacity at a minimum. Don't always run them full, however.
Giant road race pans are preferred, if they don't interfere with headers or chassis.
