Had the hood off and I did the diagonal measurements from the engine compartment to find the center of the carb stud location and copied the measurements to the hood, but if the hood is on, you could just close it on a long air filter stud to find the center of the hole location. Anyhow...
Wheel chocks are not that expensive.
On my truck, I had used wheel chocks, but forgot to also use the emergency brake when I pulled the valve body out of the transmission.
Truck still try to roll, but good thing I had the wheel chocks.

Get some casters, some 2 x 2 x .090 wall box tubing, a few rubber strips and some bolts...I could do this for under $100.
Heck....I could probably convert one of my spare engine stands.
I've mounted painted doors using dowels in the doors to just hang the door. This would change things.
