Who does not own a modern vehicle?

My stable of daily drivers consists of: 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 (owned since 1984); 1969 Dodge Charger (bought new); 1973 MG Midget (owned since 1987); 2002 PT Cruiser (wife's car), 2018 Ford Escape (bought new).

Who has dared to drive across country in a classic Mopar?

Although it wasn't a classic then but our family car, I drove my family from Alabama to Denver, CO and back in 1973 (the "gas crisis" had just begun) in our '69 Dodge Charger. No problems. The only gas problems were in the city of Denver. If I didn't get out early and get in line, the station...

    Tighten lugnuts, wheels barely turn?

I've always adjusted the brakes with the wheels installed and the parking brake off. Tighten up shoes until a slight intermittent drag is heard/felt as the wheel is spun by hand. 65 lb-ft is the FSM specification for lug nuts. I torque those with a torque wrench and the weight off the wheels.

Pics from Back in the Day

Here is my "Back in the Day". The car is in much better condition now than its owners. I didn't notice this before, but on the apartment balcony just to the left of Freida's head, our dog is peeking out. I've posted a better photo of him, for those who care. For those who don't: Sorry! The...

Pics from Back in the Day

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: My wife and I are the original owners of this Charger. It is out of a 2-1/2 year restoration by Barr's Classic Restorations in Greenville, NC and has just been made roadworthy with new tires. Going to our first show locally this Saturday.

    Where were you in 62?

Chi Town Runner: Yes, I suppose you are right. I'm lucky that way. Here in my part of the south, we say "Bless your little heart!" but the thought is the same...

    On to the NEXT issue….

My Charger just completed a 2-1/2 year restoration of the body and engine rebuild. Before that it lived permanently in the garage since 1996 but the fuel and other gauges were always fairly accurate during its driving days. The gas tank was removed during the restoration and then reinstalled...

    Where were you in 62?

In 1962, I was in 10th grade and into the second year of going steady with my girlfriend from 8th grade, who is now my wife of 58 years. In '69, together we special-ordered our '69 Charger. She picked the F3 Light Green Metallic color and I picked the 383 HP and 4-speed. After 56 years, we...

    Build date

I am the original owner of my '69 Charger and have all of the original documentation except the window sticker. It was glued to the glass and came off in strips.

What GPS navigator do you like, Garmin or Tom Tom or ?

I have had two Garmins since 2010. The only problem I've had was with the second one when I was preparing for a long trip with a group of Austin-Healey folks through the midwest northern states. Before leaving home in North Carolina, I thought I should update the maps in Garmin, so I got on...

What type of jack do you guys carry in the trunk?

I have the original bumper jack secured in its bracket in the trunk for show purposes. Over the years, I had ample opportunities to use it at home and on the road, but it quit working long ago when an internal spring broke. The thing is not made to repair. For lifting purposes, I have a...

Drivers side remote mirror, different mounts on B Body?

The mounting holes in the door for my original non-remote door mirror on my '69 Charger and for the remote mirror I salvaged from a junkyard '69 are the same, as are the attachment studs and screws.

    Silicone Brake Fluid

Exactly! I also have an MG Midget with silicone fluid and it required a repaint due to an engine bay fire. Seemed like no amount of sanding and cleaning would get rid of all the fisheyes (fortunately, in the engine bay only). Still, my belief is that silicone is less of a problem than DOT 3 or 4.

    Silicone Brake Fluid

I converted my Austin-Healey to silicone fluid in the 1980s, first flushing the lines with isopropyl alcohol. Never had any leaking or any other problems since, but there is one downside to silicone. If you get it on painted surfaces and need to repaint them at sometime down the road, it's...
