Imo, Penzoil was one of them that was a junk oil. Used to change my oil quite often since I was drag racing my one and only driver. One day I was checking out a lifter tick and pulled off a valve cover and it had gunge streaks in it already.
Hi
Im just wondering what is the correct oil pressure sending units for a stock 1969 383 4 spd car. I took a snip of this on the forum and posting it.
The top image is what I had on the car. Dont know if the dash board cluster matters or not. I have non rally dash in roadrunner
I thought he...
That color of muck can also come from oil in the coolant. Double check those dipsticks for any foreign residue. I don't know what kind of antifreeze you used but in an old car that has had Ethelene glycol in it all it's life, that's what I would use. (the old green stuff)
I was doing some work on my 318 and came to the realization of how close the oil filter is to the passenger side header. By logic I would think that this may be heating up the oil beyond what it should be. Would this result in oil pressure drop? I have noticed on long runs on the highway it...
What is the recommended spark plug for a Coronet with the 318 engine and also the oil filter. The "glovebox booklet" is not very specific on this.
It recommends J14Y..or P3-6p...Is J14Y a Champion plug? Not sure of the brand for the P3-6P....
Tks,

So, we have come full circle, if side clearance has no oil pressure related concerns here, what exactly is/was the problem with the side clearance mentioned in this motor, other than it was not the norm?
Regardless, there does seem to be a solid consensus from my readings on side clearance/oil...
That is just not true. You have to put it in proper context. An example of high oil pressure is the added significant stress on the oil pump drive. For those that have experienced pump drive failure know what I am talking about.
Again - as long as you have oil film additional oil pressure...
Thanks for this! Made me realize I could also fit my borescope in there to get a clear view of what the oil pickup looks like and the clearance it has from the pan bottom
What does low mileage mean? 30,000 on an original engine?or 2000 miles on a rebuilt engine? The age could have hardened oil inside lifters. Yes take them apart and clean. Wont hurt them. They need to go back together with same internals, ans on the same cam lobe, don't mix them.
Pre oil...
Good idea for leak prevention. What gasket did you use?
440 source oil pan looks same as 854 in this Steve Dulcich article, Mopar Muscle Magazine 03-2005
Extra thick steel is a deal maker for me. Don't know of anyone else who offers that.

What I’ve seen is that “from the factory”, BB and SB engines came with different lifters……….. they had different oil bands.
The aftermarket doesn’t always make the distinction…….and when that’s the case, they sell the SB style lifter for both.
MP sold dedicated BB or SB Hyd lifters.
Reading your post I was wondering what the shop was doing to your car. Sounds like you had several issues after the shop worked on it. Did they do the install and initial setup? Or just an oil change and screw up your car?
Any shop that works on these cars better know what they are doing...
Now that I have my Dash all restored and calibrated I am going through the sensors to validate each plus the wiring. I have the Temp sensor all squared away plus its wiring resistance checked. Now am on the Oil Sensor. Wiring and ground are testing good but sensor is a bit erratic.
Current...
I don’t know your exact answer, but here is what I learned when I was looking for a “six pack/Hemi” pan…..you need to make sure the pan & oil pickup are made by the same company. When I tried to use mix & match pan and pickup, it didn’t fit & the pan wouldn’t seat
Low oil pressure on a hot engine at idle is a pretty common indicator of wear, but nothing to be concerned about, unless you're expecting a freshly rebuilt engine. By 2000 RPM, I want to see it up there in the >60# area, but we can only work with what we have. I've got 440 HP that only hits...
I think it has been a combination of things.
1st of course is the imported lifters and cams.
2nd is high spring pressure on the crap lifters and cams.
3rd is the changes in oil chemistry.
So many things have changed since I was a kid,
Heck we used to swap cams and lifters and drive away, no...
