Which Edelbrock is on it now? What makes you think you need a new carb? An Edelbrock 650 AVS or a street demon 625 or 750. The choices are endless so it comes down to what you are familiar with and can tune.

Putting it in at 104 may help the low end with your 3.23 gears. As long as no piston to valve clearance issues arise let it ride.

Aren't lifters for small blocks different from big blocks? I remember reading that somewhere years ago. I have only dealt with big blocks so I don't know.

Mopar 8 3/4" (8.75) Ring and Pinion for 741, 742, or 489 case Richmond were always noisy to me. Strange/US Gear or Dr Diff would be where I looked.
