Swapping a Borgeson steering box in a 1970 Charger

...flare seat adapter and the port in the casting. I port every box that goes out the door these days. Once I started doing this complaints dropped to being very rare. Borgeson intalls flare seat adapters with larger IDs these days. This noise is not a Mopar phenomena. I've heard this on other...

Swapping a Borgeson steering box in a 1970 Charger

Years ago before the Borgeson steering box was widely available, Mopar Action magazine had an article named Pump it down where they added shims in between the bolt and the body of this valve.... Since then, I've read from several Mopar guys that used shims that added up to a range of .090 to...

Swapping a Borgeson steering box in a 1970 Charger

Let me know if the pump fixes it. At least it's a relatively cheap and easy solution compared to a new box.

    Stock steering box bolts?

Something pops to mind on my 65 with the Borgeson box. I can check tomorrow but I think there was one bolt that needed to be shortened so it didn't bottom out on the K. Want to say it was the outside upper one. If thats the case, only two of yours are really doing anything to hold the box to the K.

    Steering not self correcting

Is that the new box from Lares ? I’ve read on this forum that they offered rebuild original Mopar chucks but branched out to offer all new units built with a closer ratio. So many of us have switched to the Borgeson unit but it is nice to see options like these come along too.

    Pitman Arm Sizes

...that it will be harder to turn without any assist. I had the Fast ratio (Longer) idler and Pitman arms that changed the power ratio to approximately 12 to 1. Yeah, with no assist, it was very hard to steer. I changed to a Borgeson that is 14 to 1 and it too is not easy to steer with the...

    Steering not self correcting

Ok folks, it's an un-winable situation. Is it only me, or is that a non mopar steering box. I don't know what a Borgeson box looks like, but I've seen and worked on plenty of mopar. Now that he posted a picture, that looked wrong from the first glance. We have to think outside the (mopar) box!

    62 Dart (B-body) Power Steering -- Question

I bought a Borgeson kit from Bergman. Happy with it. Only thing I ran into on my 65 was my original box to k frame bolts were smaller diameter than the holes in the box. I made sleeves for the bolts and went with it.

    Steer & Gear Rebuild Feel

X3 Installed a Borgeson in my friend’s Charger, it was the best upgrade to his car. I bought one for my Charger, getting ready to install it any day now. I can understand keeping it stock or original, when it comes to safety, you can’t beat better steering, brakes and new wiring harnesses.

Borgeson Conversion Finished in the 71

Decided to put power steering back in the 71 and tried a Borgeson conversion. So far so good, all went smooth, works great and no leaks. Also put fresh meats up front and running 255 60 15x8 on all four. A little pricey but, love it

    Correct steering box

...he was familiar with the problem and could fix it. I did not know about new replacement boxes at tne time, so I paid him $450 and he fixed it. But, If I had known about Borgeson and others, I think I would have bought a new unit. I adjust my box at the beginning of each year via the alan screw.

    62 Dart (B-body) Power Steering -- Question

...is a 62 Dart -- 440 motor -- TTI headers -- After market tilt steering column, which is a different connector configuration from the column to the steering box. -- If the Borgeson unit has the shaft connection in the same location as the Mopar box, then it should be simple to hook up. --...

    Damaged power steering pump pulley.

I put that pump in my car. I had to chip away at a bump on the block that was threaded. I really still need to take a little more off. The return line robs up against that spot when tightening or loosening the pump. The original pump had a damaged pulley and was making noise. The new pump is...

    Correct steering box

...having a dead spot in the box when going straight. Thats worn gear teeth. If you want a new box, Lares[ which I just put in my 67 wagon] or Borgeson from Peter at BAC[ have that for my 65, but have not used it yet]. Many people love the Borgeson, but it is more than the Lares. Borgeson is...
