Remove the rear seat. You can get to the lock with a long flat blade screwdriver and insert it into the lock from the backside, then twist and open. Hopefully you have long enough arms and screwdriver.
Well, if the starter won't engage the flywheel that means you got the wrong one! I wouldn't give up just yet.
get the right one, install it and Faghetabotit for twenty years! Sorry you're having fitment issues. This one

Doing some general under the hood cleaning and I noticed my hood (1970) has 6 small holes along the leading edge. Anyone know what is supposed to be attached with these 6 holes if anything?
