I'm going to try another one, and this time I'm going to change the cable from the battery to the starter. That way I can cut it to length and properly setup the new starter.
I was doing it the way it was setup already. I found what your saying to be right. Hanging it on the stud might make it easier to fenagle the bottom bolt in, instead of the other way around. I barely fit my fingers up there to get that damn bolt in.
Last resort if nothing else works.......
Could be that the rod between the lock and latch fell off so when you turn it, it won't pop the latch.
If you drill a hole through the lock, you can stick a long screwdriver through the hole, into the little slot of the latch (verticle slot in...
These starters that came out 15 years after the last big block was built, ( and therefore not designed for the BB) often do not fit in the curved pocket of the block. Clearancing required.
They have to bolt absolutely flat to the trans, with no interference from the block. It's not hard to make...
Yes, I pulled it out and tested it. It works just fine. Thing is, the starter went in fine. I did notice a small gap on the stud side, of the starter. Your talking maybe less than an 1/16 of an inch.
Well... alrighty then (he says in his Jim Carrey voice).
1st pic is of the old clip. I guess it's raised / convex as it is to provide a slight spring(ish) pressure between the cable end and the firewall grommet. Well... now it just slips out. I just got the darn thing a couple months ago...
Well i really need the LH drivers side. If you could check i would appreciate it. If it is the passenger side I might still buy it to have a spare. Apparently these are getting harder to find, for me anyways. Thank you.
I'm going to try and see how two studs would work out. With these shorter starters it should slide in no problem. And I can see why you would have the stud on top, its a pain in the *** to line up that bolt.
I just went out and looked at mine.
I'm not as optimistic as I was.
At least on mine from the inside the latch is up behind the rear window sheet metal.
I laid out some painters tape and took pictures of where they are located.
Let me know if you need anything else. I'm hoping to get it in...
