    head to head

Going by conventional wisdom, 2hp/1cfm, so POTENTIALLY 100hp. The chances of that happening with NO changes otherwise, are nil! EM did a test of heads on a mild 440. 906s which flow just a bit over 200cfm, verses a 440 source stealth, at around 250. The stealth were roughly 20 hp better, rpm 20...

    1966 383 street build

If you can get a ready to run set of later heads,906/346/452, that don't need redoing then you can save money there. Maybe a set of valve springs and go.Otherwise 440 source or sidewinder heads will be far ahead in HP and have a smaller combustion chamber for easier compression AND less prone to...

1970 Coronet Wagon - "Queen Bee"

Did some more work on the wagon, got the other head off. Forgot that someone put 906 heads on the rv 440. Excited that I could build a nice budget 440 with taller pistons on this thing when I’m ready for the stroker build. Could be fun to buy a small block car and do a quick swap for the next...

I did quite a bit of research on using a 3.75 stroke crank in the 361, before I decided to just go with a stock stroke 400. Feel free to contact me if you are interested.

    1968 Dodge Charger In Progress

I'm in the process of doing a similar 440 build for my wagon. Different cam though. Get it together so I can remove the oil consuming/leaker 440 thats in it now.

906 heads, aluminium heads, 452 heads

Thanks for reply. I'm not sure what brand the headers are, but the rt side have been cut and rewarded by an exhaust shop to fit the engine bay. Headers are standard block hugger, not sure of brand. At 21.00 minutes, shows the modifications to make them fit, done by the guy who originally did...

    1971 383?

Finished, A complete number matching engine that had real low miles. Std crank, Std Bore, all housing bores measured on the money. Reused pistons, rods, same heads, same block, reused the 574 cam-had it redone at Delta Cam Tacoma. Cylinder heads completely rebuilt, new springs, valves, seats...

    Machine Shop Costs, 440 Build

Another way to go would be if he had them do everything to the block and assemble the engine the labor would be $1684 He furnished the parts I would use : 440 Source 415 stroker kit and Stealth heads $4100 Listed Comp cam & lifters and Harland Sharp roller rockers $2062 Timing chain listed, cam...

    383 build advice

I'd calculate the compression ratio (requires measurements) for both the 906s, and some 440 source stealth heads. TF are real nice, not necessary for a driver. I'd probably not put any money into 906s. If it's too high for pump gas, I'd wack off the domes (assuming solid dome) and rebalance...

    1966 383 street build

I am going through my 67 HP 383 - 67 Satellite 383 refresh - questions/advice. It was rebuilt previously and bored 30 over. Teardown after 35 yrs and 30k miles revealed that the previous machine shop did some questionable work, particularly on the heads and crank. The build also had low...

    Machining timeline?

...shop told me that the crank was not well-balanced by the previous shop, so they had to spend time undoing some of that work to get it balanced this time. He also told me that my new 440 Source heads needed extra work because some of the seats were not quite located properly relative to the valve.

Misunderstood Mopar tech 400, Thermoquad etc.

I was thinking today about buying a mid/late 70’s Mopar to add to my collection and that got me to looking at the 400. I’ve read a few articles on it and think it’s got the makings of a really good engine. I think it’s deeply misunderstood by a lot of Mopar folks and completely unknown to GM...

Yes, JW makes the bellhousing for a 46RH or E to a bb mopar. Just cut off the factory one and bolt this up with the pump housing bolts. I want the original engine back in it, just for peace of mind. I may stick with stock crank, aftermarket rods and a good set of pistons, with 440 source...

Rebuilding 1968 440. What would you all say is a quote I should expect from the machine shop with the list of items I gave them? Hoping under $5k

$5k sounds low, but depends on machine shop costs in your area - they are expensive here. I am redoing my previously rebuilt 383 now. R&R pistons. Block already bored 0.030, but needs honed for new pistons. Crank already cut 10/10 will get balanced and polished. Valve job and chamber equalizing...

    BB Engine question

I did the 440 source on my 400, basically same block as your 383. Everything fits and bolts up like original but better flow and chamber shape as well as saving a bunch of weight. They are called stealth heads cause if you paint them the look original. You also get the hardened valve seats.

good information thanks. not a big fan of comp stuff, had one fail break in and a buddy of mine had one run grooves in his lifters after a year. sounds like yours is a bit older though so i bet qc was better back then. i've got manual brakes/ and it's a stick so im not super limited on cam...

Christmas came early! Just received the Stealth aluminum heads I ordered from 440 Source. Haven't fully unpacked and inspected them, but the sure look pretty in the box! We've been busy getting everything ready to have friends over for Easter tomorrow so progress has been a little slow. I've...
