What I’ve seen is that “from the factory”, BB and SB engines came with different lifters……….. they had different oil bands.
The aftermarket doesn’t always make the distinction…….and when that’s the case, they sell the SB style lifter for both.
MP sold dedicated BB or SB Hyd lifters.
Reading your post I was wondering what the shop was doing to your car. Sounds like you had several issues after the shop worked on it. Did they do the install and initial setup? Or just an oil change and screw up your car?
Any shop that works on these cars better know what they are doing...
Now that I have my Dash all restored and calibrated I am going through the sensors to validate each plus the wiring. I have the Temp sensor all squared away plus its wiring resistance checked. Now am on the Oil Sensor. Wiring and ground are testing good but sensor is a bit erratic.
Current...
I don’t know your exact answer, but here is what I learned when I was looking for a “six pack/Hemi” pan…..you need to make sure the pan & oil pickup are made by the same company. When I tried to use mix & match pan and pickup, it didn’t fit & the pan wouldn’t seat
Low oil pressure on a hot engine at idle is a pretty common indicator of wear, but nothing to be concerned about, unless you're expecting a freshly rebuilt engine. By 2000 RPM, I want to see it up there in the >60# area, but we can only work with what we have. I've got 440 HP that only hits...
I think it has been a combination of things.
1st of course is the imported lifters and cams.
2nd is high spring pressure on the crap lifters and cams.
3rd is the changes in oil chemistry.
So many things have changed since I was a kid,
Heck we used to swap cams and lifters and drive away, no...
Hello,
Just getting finished up on 383 break-in on 67 Dart.
Did two 2000-2500 rpm pulls bringing water temp up to 150 then cool.
Thing is probably only have about 15 min runtime so far. This time drained water and oil while hot. Surprised at what the oil looks like already.
Questions are: How...
The oil filter that came off was a carquest R85085 and is about 3 1/4” tall. No idea what engine it’s supposed to fit but I guess it was running on this 318 for awhile.
I bought a wix 51515 and is roughly 5” tall. This filter is hitting the headers and I’m unable to spin it on.
Didn’t know if...
I have a six quart oil pan on a 383 with headers and high volume oil pump. I’m changing the oil and only 3.5 quarts came out, including most of what was in the filter. I filled the new filter part way before installing (1/3 quart), then put five quarts of oil into the engine. I ran it a few...
It only smoked when I started hearing the noise and gave it the beans, out of frustration. No smoke any other time.
I thought i posted the numbers. Will look them up and edit this and the original post.
I have no vacuum advance. I'll check my data log for timing at that RPM. With all the...
True - I used the wrong word. I should have said there is no supply of oil to the bearing from the oil pump, so whatoil is there has no pressure behind it and little ability to keep the two from touching.
...This is on a OEM brand repo gauge, I will hook up a mechanical gauge to see what it says. I was talking about it with a friend and he asked whatoil I’m using. I said 10 W30. He suggested going to 20W50.
Now here’s my thinking. 20W50 should give a higher pressure reading because it’s a...
The issue is more than likely the speedo head causing your issue. They get dried out from lack of lubrication. My 65 Sport Fury developed the same issue. I pulled out the speedo cluster and put a drop or two of clock oil in it. It has been working fine since then. This is what I used...
As the title says, I have a new Mopar crate engine which is a 2019 manufacture 5.7 crate engine. I got it new and installed it about a year ago into my 71 Charger. I finally went to fire it and no oil pressure. The engine ran for about seconds and died, I did this twice so about 30 seconds all...
Some do some dont.. my last 2 318s i tookj apart didn't.. BUT.. what i did was if you look where the plate goes the oil line ends at it with a pipe plug.. i drilled bout a 3/8" hole in the thrust plate and a .060 hole in the pipe plug (hole int he trust plate is so oil can shoot out) so i made...
This is a OEM 1970's Twist On Oil Filler Cap. It is original,
not a china knockoff, and is in decent condition, just needs a
cleanup and repaint. I can no longer remember for sure what engine
this came off of, but I believe it will work on small and big blocks.
$15.00. Local pickup, or buyer...
