What I’ve seen is that “from the factory”, BB and SB engines came with different lifters……….. they had different oil bands. The aftermarket doesn’t always make the distinction…….and when that’s the case, they sell the SB style lifter for both. MP sold dedicated BB or SB Hyd lifters.

True - I used the wrong word. I should have said there is no supply of oil to the bearing from the oil pump, so what oil is there has no pressure behind it and little ability to keep the two from touching.
