    WTB 70 - 71 440 6 Pack / Hemi Oil Pan

Are you looking for a 6 pack and an oil pan, or just the oil pan from a 6pack car ? Sorry for the stupid question, I have 6 pack that I am trying to figure out what to do with. Thanks Frank

    Oil pump bypass spring ??

I've started 2 383's that were stuck. Neither had an oil pressure gauge but it wouldn't have mattered because it would have been off the gauge. In both cases first it ballooned the filter (one was a NAPA Gold) and then it blew the oil filter gasket out and dumped all of the oil on the floor...

    Ten Rules for Maximum Cooling

Not that long ago some high output marine 4 stroke engines had alarmingly small oil pans, it was to save weight, but they probably figured out that they needed more oil capacity for overall better performance. Today's engines have closer to 6 or more quarts, rather than the four, they used to have.

440 slow to pick up oil pressure

Yes, sounds like the oil filter is allowing drain back, probably a leaking internal valve.

    Front sump pan,440

...no problems indicated, I just did not trust the guy saying "just changed, 50 miles ago, synthetic 10/30. I also wanted "old conventional" oil in it. Only problem was very low oil pressure at hot engine, at idle; 10-15 lbs. I think I solved that problem just now, I put in 20/50 Valvoline...

    Oil filter leak

I was just changing my oil on my 70 383 this afternoon, which I’ve done dozens of times in the decades I’ve owned the car. Got everything done and fired up, seemed to take longer for oil light to go out. Went and checked, and found oil dripping at a good rate from the filter where it contacts...

SOLD Mopar Small Block Oil Pump & Pickup Tube

This is a Mopar Small Block Oil Pump & Pickup Tube. It came off of a 1972 340, but should work on most, if not all small blocks. It is in good condition, but could use a cleanup due to sitting on a shelf in the garage for many years. It is USA made, not a china knockoff. $35.00. Local pickup...

    Ten Rules for Maximum Cooling

I’ve always thought oil capacity has an effect on cooling. I drive a Camry as a daily driver. It’s a small 4 cylinder and yet it holds the same amount of engine oil as my 68 charger. Always wondered why all the auto manufacturers ran so little oil capacity vs the engine sizes back in the day...

    "Breaking in Big Block"

What do you mean by you're surprised at what the oil looks like? A new filter and oil is never a bad idea. You can cut the old filter open and see if there is anything nasty in there.

Oil pick up openings depend on what?

Is there a reason for an oyster type oil pick up opening as apposed to a boxed opening like the one below in the second image? It seems the stock oyster type has very small reservoir provisions to hold oil? Am I correct? Does the shape depend on the types of baffles/trap doors that the oil pan...

Dipstick for 440 with deep pan

I would run it one quart low on the original dipstick. (And that's EXACTLY how I run my deep pans....along with a windage tray). You will have more oil in it than a stock pan, AND the oil will be farther away from the crank. Win/win. See engine masters test of oil level.

Pieces of something under 383 valve cover??

Definitely not bueno. Can the oil pan be removed with the engine in the car?? Edit - looks like so, with patience and a little finageling, if the center link is removed. Any tips on this? I have read a couple older posts on it. Missile - did the seal pieces plug your oil pick up?

    Oil Pump Prime Procedure

Don't pack it full of anything other than some engine oil if you want to. It will draw oil just fine. Yes it's a big block, same oil pan, heads, rocker arms, valve covers, water pump, oil pump and drive, timing chain, camshaft, fuel pump, engine mount brackets, etc, etc.

LA Engine Pre-oil Tool "Stop" Locations

Wouldn't it be neat if there was an industry standard for where the oil holes were drilled on every cam. I doubt that it was the case though. They may be in the same place for a particular manufacturer. Spin the oil pump and turn the engine over slowly until you get oil to the top.
