No but it wasn't driven all that much in the past several years. The truck in question is a 97 with only 140k miles. Don't think the tires had more than 10k on them. Still looked new when I sold them about a year ago.

Yup, a bottom tap does cut but mostly at the bottom. If the treads are not damaged at the top but say half way down, the bottom tap will be fine. In the 30+ years in machining and even more years of working on cars, I never made the threads worse. Before I go into any thread, I inspect them and...

One of my problems is that I'm shade blind. Not quite color blind but bad enough. Yeah, I can trace out circuits but have to mark them so I can keep track....it just takes longer and gets frustrating.

Well, I've 'stacked' my own leaf springs but never had wheel hop with factory stuff. Shocks are important too to control the spring. Can't help you with a store bought spring because I've never bought them....
