Currently working on the valve gear noise.
Might need slightly longer pushrods. Phoning CompCams. On hold at the moment.
Engine is clean, no wear to mention, other than the timing chain. Compcam said they have pushrods 13 thou longer than stock. I will make more accurate measurements tomorrow...
Hey everybody. I solved a no-start issue on our 74 Road Runner,
(including a new ignition switch, neutral safety switch, starter relay…all parts I had around), got her running. (Also, a new ignition key lock)
Here’s my issue now:
1)key on, gauges go live. Great
2)start her up, fuel level...
1968 Plymouth Roadrunner up for grabs at a reasonable price. Bought from a family member who's dad passed away so car has sat for some years. I flushed the old gas and changed oil and shes up and running. Has great oilpressure but carbs need apart and cleaned. No rust on body , its had both...
It only smoked when I started hearing the noise and gave it the beans, out of frustration. No smoke any other time.
I thought i posted the numbers. Will look them up and edit this and the original post.
I have no vacuum advance. I'll check my data log for timing at that RPM. With all the...
STP, Lucas and similar products are viscosity index improvers meant to guard against oil shear breakdown. Really important since anything with sprockets and chains has to deal with oil shear.
The days of using one oil in your daily, hot rod, lawn mower etc. are long gone.
My suggestion is to...
Air is drawn IN through the breather. Air is drawn OUT through the PCV by manifold vacuum. Since much of the crankcase volume is from blowby, just how much air is drawn through the breather is questionable. More often than not there is oil spray around the breather which would indicate there is...
19 page thread, were there any conclusions?
In the last year, Summit no longer carries the Wix filter. Strange that they would drop it.
I think they sell the race version that is marketed by Driven. I don’t get a warm fuzzy about it since the origin is a little cloudy.
My last couple of oil...
Recently my 200,000 Grand Cheeroke lost nearly all its oilpressure. Read 6 psi on the gauge. Sounded fine. Towed it home. The 3.6 engine uses a cartridge style filter, so it makes inspection easy. Pulled the filter to inspect for debris in case there was engine damage. Zero debris, but it...
Update, went to napa after work and bought a napa gold filter 1515
( made in USA ) on the lable still looks identical to the wix.
pulled the old , screwed on the new one dry as allways fired it up and pressure popped right up to normal. Top off the oil again.
Did the pump loose prime ?
Bad...
My engine builder does it all by hand and no drill. I tried once and in about 8 turns you could feel the pressure and see the oil. had the valve covers off
There could be a few issues contributing to this. Hot spots on the flywheel from slippage or not being surfaced when clutch was installed[ gotta do this when replacing the clutch unit], pilot bearing/bushing bad, oil leak from engine or trans contaminating the clutch. Some people like to use the...
So I restored the AC system on the 69 Charger myself. I brought in an AC technician to check it out and charge it up.
So last weekend we pressure and vacuum tested the system. Everything is new or rebuilt. The system tested so no leaks once I found good quality R134 adapters and the right O...
Too high? Cold, no. What is warm idle pressure/45mph pressure? I like a 40-45lb idle warm, and 60-65 down the road. 75 at road speed wouldn't bother me.
That looks to be about a 7-8qt pan (+filter). I'd run 7qts, including filter. I would absolutely ignore the fill line on the dipstick.
The...
Hmm, never heard of the Gibbs before, but, I'll be happy to look into it. Being in PA, which the summers can get quite warm, I'm leaning towards 5 quarts of the 10w-30 (and no Lucas additive).
Seeing how I probably should use conventional vs. synthetic blend products, such as the Brad Penn /...
What we’re working soon.. it’s got a bad oil pump. It cranks but the valves are clacking showing nooilpressure.. and it’s got metal shavings in engine.. so where going to pull and rebuild it.. give me something new to drive.. 5.7 Hemi..
#1 I don't remember whose cam that one was (and you know I'm not protecting anyone because I will talk bad about any cam grinder) we were working on 4 engines at that time.
#2 I assume it was bent when it was put in new. (Won't make that mistake again.) Never assume a new cam is straight. New...
...block cleaning, they need to be removed. And after it's cleaned you need to make sure they're replaced. Otherwise you'll end up with nooilpressure. Also on the tool list: tap and die set. Or at the minimum, taps in the sizes needed for all of the threaded holes. Either before its tanked...
