    Spark plug

What condition are the plugs in that you are currently using? Are they consistent? some oil fouled? What type of ignition?

No oil pressure on start up after oil change.

I changed the oil and filter on my 440, recent build with a new pump, Wix filter. Started it up, no oil pressure. Scared the crap out of me, pulled the filter, pulled the pump. Couldn’t find anything wrong, got out another filter, half- filled it with oil, put it all back together, started up...

Here is a question for the flat tappet cam guys....

The underlying thing with this issue to me is simple: - For decades, we didn't hear (or experience) multitudes of cam failures in engines, rebuilt or otherwise. Cams (and lifters) were made of certain metals (and were machined a certain way); oil was made a certain way (all dino, of course)...

Oil has to go somewhere. Take a look at what you're looking at.

440 6 Pack squealing noise only when completely warmed up

So.....I replaced the oil filter hoping I'd get lucky. Yeah right. I went for a ride and about a mile from I house, here comes the squealing sound again. Came home and I used a stethoscope to help pinpoint the noise. When I touched the timing chain cover, WOW, I can clearly hear it. I...

    Oil leak at times

Hi everyone I have a question about the 4 holes on the back of the motor mainly the 2 hole on the left and right of the crank. So when I am running my engine at idle does great 50 psi of oil pressure then if I give a bit of rpm oil will start to come out of the bell hosing I am wondering where...

440 6 Pack squealing noise only when completely warmed up

How about a squealing bypass valve inside the oil filter? Change the filter and see what happens. That's all I got...except... I suppose an oil pump pressure relief valve could squeal (broken/weak spring), but I don't know if you would see pressure pulsations on a gauge tee-d in at the sensor unit.

    1968 Plymouth GTX

The oil pan was pretty dented up but a new one is $200 so I decided to knock the dents out and repaint it. Then I discovered it's not technically correct for my car. It's a 187 oil pan, where from what I read the '68-'69 440s came with a 402 oil pan. Since my car is not numbers matching (the...

    Best oil for 440.....

Imo, Penzoil was one of them that was a junk oil. Used to change my oil quite often since I was drag racing my one and only driver. One day I was checking out a lifter tick and pulled off a valve cover and it had gunge streaks in it already.

1969 383 oil pressure sending unit

Hi Im just wondering what is the correct oil pressure sending units for a stock 1969 383 4 spd car. I took a snip of this on the forum and posting it. The top image is what I had on the car. Dont know if the dash board cluster matters or not. I have non rally dash in roadrunner I thought he...

    Thermostat brown.

That color of muck can also come from oil in the coolant. Double check those dipsticks for any foreign residue. I don't know what kind of antifreeze you used but in an old car that has had Ethelene glycol in it all it's life, that's what I would use. (the old green stuff)

Oil filter too close to headers???

I was doing some work on my 318 and came to the realization of how close the oil filter is to the passenger side header. By logic I would think that this may be heating up the oil beyond what it should be. Would this result in oil pressure drop? I have noticed on long runs on the highway it...

    pSpecs for 318 engine

What is the recommended spark plug for a Coronet with the 318 engine and also the oil filter. The "glovebox booklet" is not very specific on this. It recommends J14Y..or P3-6p...Is J14Y a Champion plug? Not sure of the brand for the P3-6P.... Tks, Bob32268

400 Stroker Rebuild Sounds Like a Bucket of Bolts

So, we have come full circle, if side clearance has no oil pressure related concerns here, what exactly is/was the problem with the side clearance mentioned in this motor, other than it was not the norm? Regardless, there does seem to be a solid consensus from my readings on side clearance/oil...

    Oil pump question

That is just not true. You have to put it in proper context. An example of high oil pressure is the added significant stress on the oil pump drive. For those that have experienced pump drive failure know what I am talking about. Again - as long as you have oil film additional oil pressure...

fuel gauge not reading gas at all

Yes it's a light and the oil sending unit is a switch. Turn on the ignition and the light comes on. Start the engine and the oil pressure turns off the switch. So 12V and ground are all that's involved in that circuit, not any voltage limiter. Your temperature and fuel gauges are resistor type...
