    Overdrive on 318 Poly

Had the trans rebuilt in my 64 Fury, cruise it everywhere, long or short trips. Unless you're going cross country I'd rebuild the push-button. Without an OD, I would guess sometimes ya have to stay on the gas a bit, but no big deal. 2.76 Sure-Grip, poly 2 barrel, TTI exhaust, it's smooth and...

Gas Station Pumps from the 60's and 70's who has restored one?

Old pumps rule! I need to get back on my Wayne 276, from 1916. It was on my parents farm growing up, I even took the underground fill neck and all the switches/conduit that was on a makeshift wall next to it. I have since bought another one, in better shape, for parts, and believe it or not...

Need some opinions on wheel choices

Me too, but I those tires make all the difference. Dunlop Radial G/T Qualifier tires are awesome, including the name/text of the white letters. I had a set on my 57 Chevy 100 years ago, 4 speed with a posi behind a brand new bought by me from GM 330 hp 350, and I did burnouts like it was my...

    Green Bearing Question

Greased, not dry. 10:35 - I initially thought the brown grease was due to rust, or water getting in, but there was zero moisture, only discolored grease. 24:30 - again, I state rust at first, but then correct myself and say burnt. No water or moisture in the rear at all, full of clean gear...

    Green Bearing Question

The inner race on my tapered roller bearing spun on the axle. Got so hot it changed the metallurgy of the race, and reduced the OD of the axle shaft. No symptoms of anything, not out of adjustment. Discovered when I pulled both axles to check everything out before a long trip. Never saw...

Green bearings and inner axle seals

It has an o-ring, my guess is it's intended to seal the gear oil in, and anything out.

Green bearings and inner axle seals

I replaced the seals and add some grease to the o-ring on the bearing. Just some extra insurance, doesn't hurt.

Information on the Ibm card for my car

The bottom numbers are 1-80. The sides are rows, from the bottom up, 9-0, the top two rows above 0 are letters. On my 67 card, the top two rows are R and X, however that doesn't mean if a punch is there it represents R or X. For example, your trim is H4Q. The TRIM punches are: Punch at 8, and...

    Heater core replacement

It seems most radiators/cores are aluminum now. I have an 88 S10 I bought a new heater core for it, aluminum, didn't fit very well, not impressed. Learned my lesson. Same truck, new radiator is plastic/aluminum combo. Took original copper/brass radiator to same place. It will out last the...

    Noisy speedometer cable

I wouldn't use WD40 on the cable, just the speedo mechanism. Once freed up, I put a few drips of oil in the small port and work that through.

    Noisy speedometer cable

New cables are garbage, lube original one. Speedo can cause the same sound, from personal experience. Pull it, WD40 the heck out of the mechanism, specifically the sealed up pot metal part, which should have a small hole or port to put WD40. Use the end of an old cable or something that fits...

Mouse proofing for winter storage? There's not a lot of mice here but...

I put an extra cedar 2x4 piece from a swing set in my car and no mice since. No idea why it works. Used up plastic peanut butter jars, put sticky traps inside, have to fold to get in. Remnants of pb is enough to attract, sticky trap can't be pulled out, when caught toss.
