I think you're over thinking this. If it works and it's safe, you're good to go.
I haven't bought anything specific ever to make a linkage work, other than generic nuts or bolts from the hardware store. I usually just go to my stash.
Once you're into aftermarket carbs and intakes you need to do...
The calcs are because certain members claim (and appear to be) fairly knowledgeable on whatever subject is at hand, but then don't back-up what they are saying.
If someone is going to throw formulas out there for us simpletons, then back it up and provide some proof. Bob has kindly provided a...
So come on, let's see the teacher show the pupils the answer.
Over to you Bob, show the calculations for each carb so we know which one flows the most.
The AVS2 has not been the "night and day" difference compared to my Holley 1850 that some folk proclaim that it should be.
The low speed response was soggy although it did feel slightly stronger at the top end compared to the Holley 1850 (600 vac sec). It certainly wasn't stronger anywhere than...
You might not need any need parts to mount the AVS2. You can unbolt the bracket from the Holley and bolt it on the Edelbrock. You may have to drill a hole here and there to get it all to work.
Here's what I did to mine:
Geez Geoff you're hard work.
The whole point of my post was you can somehow glean from a test of 6 different cars that the brand of carburetor is the sole reason why a car will go faster or slower, and then you can cherry pick some statistics to somehow prove that Carter (or Edelbrock in other...
383 Super Bee was the lightest on the test by between 95 and 173 lbs and had a dual point distributor and a 2.5" exhaust when the factory specs were single point and 2.25"....
383 Super Bee was 4th out of 6th in the acceleration tests....
Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story...
I've recently used that same Edelbrock spacer with a 650 AVS2 and the openings are definitely big enough.
Even if they are a smaller size diameter they still generally work (although you must check on the bench first) as the diameter of the blades is always slightly smaller than the actual...
Thanks Bob, but my confusion is more along the lines of "is my fuel line size adequate" and "it would seem to depend on what type of line I'm using".
I've read that 3/8" line is required to support a certain amount horsepower. I've got what I thought was 5/16" line throughout but now realise the...
I've recently replaced my Holley carburetor with an Edelbrock and ended up with a fairly long piece of rubber fuel line from the pump to the carburetor. My small block car has 5/16" fuel line as opposed to 3/8".
My confusion arose with the inside diameter and outside diameter of these lines when...
So if the small block Chevy made 465hp under this arrangement, how much cfm does each cylinder see using a 600 cfm 4 barrel carb on a dual plane manifold?
Just for comparison purposes, so we're comparing apples with apples.
I hate to clog this thread up or hijack it but I do need to defend my integrity after it was queried.
The comments below are directly from the thread I started in A Bodies. I'd also like to say that I believe Geoff is a good guy and very knowledgeable. I've spoken to him on the phone and he's a...
Hold on, hold on..that was me and you're cherry picking my comments to suit your argument. I asked the question on A bodies because they have more small blocks over there.
I've had a Holley 1850, 600 vac sec on the car for 4 years. The cheapest most basic 600 Holley. Performs faultlessly. I've...
No, I'm at 12° base timing, but it now idles at 25° with the vacuum advance connected. Sorry for the confusion.
I just watched the whole 32 minute video. I'm still a bit confused with the inches of vacuum etc. I limited my vac advance unit in the same way he was talking about in the video (but...
This must be due to the carburetor needing tuning to MV. It should idle better. Now I'm running MV I have 25° BTDC at idle and it's so smooth and feels so powerful, idling in Drive, held on the brake. When it's cold though, it doesn't idle as well (no choke, just nursing it on the throttle). I...
Well I've got the Manifold Vacuum to work and it is better than Ported from my experience.
My engine is susceptible to pinging due to the 10.8:1 compression and fairly small cam. Plus it's pretty hot here. With the MVA it was pinging but I pulled the vacuum advance can and JB Welded 2 small tabs...
I wanted the "POLY" wording in the "4" like the Duster but he couldn't do it. We could probably play around with the software to get it to work but I was leaving it up to my teenage son and to him 30 mins is 3 hours so I got what I got. I'm not knocking him though as he did a great job and I'm...
