400 is .75 down in the hole
440 is .123 down in the hole
Both are really awful.
Possibly the extra .50 affected flame
propagation/squelch or some other damn thing?
I do not have a clue and I was surprised
and did not expect those results or I would not
have spent the large pile of money and the...
In our 73 Roadrunner Stocker the 400 runs 1.20 under the index.
The 340 Low Comp. runs a bit faster than that
in same car (People will find out at Indy this year Hopefully).
With a optimized gearing and convertor combination the 440 (Pistons .125 down)
well tuned was .3 to .5 under the index...
Is it 030 or 060 bore or some other size?
I will try to find you some pistons that will work
much better as soon as I am well enough to get
to the shop soon!
Everything sound good except I do not understand the
8 to 1 part?
Pistons down 150/175 in the Hole.
We tried to run a 73 440 spec. {.122 down) in our stock
eliminator as it was factored at only 325 HP. However, with
the low compression it would not fall out of a tree.
I am thinking it is not mandatory at that ET.
It however is a very good idea especially with Slicks or
drag Radials. In 1969 we blew the flywheel out of a Hemi

and the petals clean out of the car. We had a blanket over the...
I would really like to have this stuff.
I can drive down next couple days and buy
you a nice dinner or lunch!
I would owe you a big favor in the future.
All 1967 GTX 4 Speeds featured a Dual Point Distributor and
a Dana 60 Rear. No matter if 440 or Hemi.
I owned one in 1967 with a Hemi 4 Speed.
Only 440 Automatics came with single point, The 426 Automatics had Dual Points
The rear fenderwells in trunk were cut and spread slightly on the inside by the
rear fender where it does not show from anywhere. You have to
put you finger down between the fendwells and inside of the fenders.
I doubt that it was every changed unless you had a tech that was tipped
off about it.
Darcy with two of the red Plymouths just beat me by .01
in Phoenix. He treed me and drove a good race!
He is a friend of mine and if he let me inspect
his car I would how if it was my old car. Most Stock/SS racer
will not appreciate you looking at their cars and I hate to ask.
Trivia = Mr Norm special order a bunch of 1966 Dodge Coronets
with the 426/365 Street Wedge and the were produced.
However, they are not NHRA class legas as the only produced about
a 100 of them iif my elderly memory serves. They needed 500 back then to
be consider Factory available.
As I...
