Anyone have a tutorial on how to replace the ignition lock cylinder thingy on the column on pops' 70 GTX? The old one is worn out / busted.
I downloaded the service manual, but don't see anywhere in there that tells me how. I am guessing:
Pull steering wheel
remove blinker stuff
pull column...
Pop's has a 70 GTX 440, has started stalling weirdly, and we're wondering if it is a fuel filter issue - pops says he's not sure he's ever changed it in the 36yrs he's owned it.
It is a metal canister looking thing with not just an in and out nipple, but a little extra one that seems to go back...
We got all excited to have the 74 all running and driving well, and so the kid took off to a buddies, maybe 50 miles away. Well, anyway apparently the ol 318 was a couple quarts low (Dumb mistake I know) and now we've got some noticeable lifter rattle. DANG.
Do we get away with a cam/lifter...
So the kid dropped a new ($78!) Carb on the wheezy 318, and overall it was a great improvement. The issue we have is that the choke (also new) keeps the engine choked for far too long. When cold, we 'set' the choke as normal by stepping on the pedal, it fires up great - but soon it's choking...
Pops has had this 70 GTX forever, and we need to source a better trim strip, the top one on the trunk lid... ours was missing, then he found a crappy one and put some vinyl chrome tape on it but it's ugly. I thought someone was re-popping them years ago but don't know where to look, or does...
In this picture you can see that a P.O. applied a different type of sticker to this car in a likely quickie refresh some time ago... over top of the old one.
also attached is the data plate.
which sticker type am I needing to source?
thank you!!
We've had this frankenstein 1974 Charger for a long time.
It is a factory slant six car, but a prior owner crudely swapped in a 318/904 from 1975... The wiring harness is a bit of a gong show, and it has never charged in all my years owning it - making it just sit around and continue rusting...
