I did use the trick flow recommended cam. It idles just fine around 1000 RPM. Doesn't make a whole lot of vacuum. But I'm super happy with the set up. I use mine for car show cruises and haven't even hit the track with it. I don't have power brakes or anything needing vacuum.
I went your planned route and LOVE this engine. I've got a 493 stroker, SCAT rods/crank, Icon pistons, TF top end kit (execept replaced the TF single plane with an RPM for hood clearance), hedman shorty headers, and FI tech fuel injection. I absolutely LOVE this combination. Haven't dynoed...
440fish - your buddy's setup sounds like mine. 493 stroker with the TF topend kit, minus the intake. I wonder if my setup would make those numbers as well? As for the 383, like most have said, bore and stroke and slap a FI Tech unit on top. All the fun and no choke needed to start.
I had a similar problem. Except mine issue was on start up. Ran fine till I got to the show and then when I'm about to leave (cooled off completely), no start. not even a click from the starter. Chased my tail and thought it was the coil, starter solenoid heat washed, ect. Turns out I had a...
No e/t's yet or HP/TQ.
440/493, Scat crank and rods, Icon pistons, Harland Sharp 1.7 rockers, TF power package 240 heads (except for intake), RPM intake, hedman 440 shorty headers, FI Tech 800 mean street, 2.5" side exit exhaust with spin tech mufflers, FAB 9 housing, moser 35 spline axles...
The best "trophy" I ever received was a plaque that read "Most likely to go to jail while leaving car show". a close second was an all mopar show and I won first place over some of those "snooty" types. I really don't care to win trophies at these shows. I just like looking at all the eye...
So I think I figured it out. Made some cardboard templates and put them on the front sides of the radiator to direct the incoming air more through the radiator. My science experiment worked! Lowered my running outlet temp to a max of 210. Most of the time it ran around 200. Too much air was...
So the thermostat might not be slowing down the 55gpm water pump enough? I've tried flow restrictors before but had no luck. Didn't make a difference. Took them back out. Only thing I can think of is either a better radiator, more aluminum siding to the left and right in the front of the...
So the radiator is a 27" x 18" aluminum 3 row. The cap is keeping all pressure in. I have not seen any boil over. It's got a 16" electric fan that has a custom aluminum shroud around it as well. The motor has been pushed back about 18". That might be an issue as well. Too far away to have...
So I've got a 493 stroker, with a mopar performance water pump housing and mezeire electric water pump and 27" aluminum radiator. Also got FI tech EFI. So my gage is hooked up to outlet temp, fan relay is hooked up to outlet and the FI tech screen hooked up to inlet temp. The differential temp...
I'm running a holley blue pump to the FCC. I haven't had any issues withy my FCC, but that might be because my engine is pushed WAY BACK, so not a lot of heat gets to the FCC. Only issue I had was heat soaking my starter (nothing to do with FI tech or FCC), So I put one of those thermal wraps...
I'm running the TF top end kit that comes with a hydro cam, everything but the intake since the single plane didn't fit underneath my hood. I have not seen ANY issues as of yet. Then again I only have about 200 miles on a new build. I didn't have to bush my lifter bores either.
I put the meanstreet 800 unit on my 493 stroker and love it. WAAAAAY smoother operation and instant throttle response. Only annoying issue I have run into is after it fires up nice and easy, if it shuts off before coming up to temp it is a bear to get started again. I'm sure I just have to do...
