The frame rails are solid as the day it was new. its a rust free car. The trunk is also solid but did have some rust scale in the trunk due to when I bought it there was no trunk seal left to speak of so rain had got in and trapped under the trunk mat. it was cleaned up and painted with POR15...
This car is an originally sold in California car. This was prior to all the emissions restrictions on carburetors, exhaust, electrical....... the key to know that this car is an original California car is in the trunk. There is a tube thats purpose was for gas fumes escaping from the tank...
Maybe you can save the motor. Car is junk! I don't believe in rebodying that's just a rip off to the next guy. Pretty much the same as passing a clone off as a real car.
By the time you bought it and shipped it home it would be tough to get your money back out of it. It looks to sat outside for long long that everything s roached
The paint is a real throw back mod kind of thing and I might be able to live with it but the interior.......... Couple of grand and it could be back in shape. But I owned a challenger my friends called the Tamale wagon
still sounds like a vacuum leak. as long as the carb is cold and choking with extra gas you are ok. soon as it warms up and the choke pulls off your in a lean condition. extra air pulled in somewhere. bad vacuum line, loose carb to manifold, poorly adjusted vacuum advance.
another thing you might double check is to make sure your rear shocks are tight and not moving. The slightest movement will cause noise. usually its the top that causes issues. They could chatter or clunk with deceleration until the brakes are hit and a load is put back on them again.
Oh and...
Check pulley alignment. Never know what has been replaced by am almost correct part. Also replacement alternator sometimes will not have the pulley pressed on properly.
