Yes, you can do that. I've done it before. I usually use 22ga for quarters and 18ga for floorboards. You can use 18ga for quarters, but it's much stiffer and more difficult to form than 22ga. If you have to do much forming to it, 22ga is much easier to work with.
That's so cool. It's like I'm looking at my own car. Mine is a '68 factory dark metallic green w/ black vinyl top (which looks like what yours is) and somebody painted it that same shade of blue (metallic blue, in my case).
I'm attempting to rebuild the power steering gear in my '68 Dodge Charger using a rebuild kit and the shop manual, but I've hit a snag. The lower reaction spring is broken.
I called "Firm Feel" and "Steer and Gear". Neither of them will sell me the reaction springs.
