    Hydraulic roller lifter issues???

Measured for new pushrods this morning and have a valley cover with access. That was dumb not putting that on before. Anyways I opened up the bad lifter and you can see the bottom of the check valve retainer is partially separated from the plunger. I checked all my geometry before I took it...

    Hydraulic roller lifter issues???

I learned a valuable lesson yesterday. Don't assume that a vendor sends you the correct parts. When I ordered my cam, it was selected for me based on my goals. The vendor shipped valve springs and lifters for this cam, as I did not select any part numbers myself. Apparently the lifters that...

    Hydraulic roller lifter issues???

I just noticed something yesterday. The receipt that lists the cam, lifters, and valve springs, which was all bought together, shows that my lifters are only good for up to 360 pounds open pressure. I left a message and I'm waiting for a return phone call. Stay tuned

    Hydraulic roller lifter issues???

I tried beating it backwards but it was stuck, couldn't break the seal. I used a 5 lb hammer too. The Indy heads are larger dimensionally so I have to run a cast aluminum valley cover rather than the pan. The heads extend over the valley by approx 1/2" each side trapping it in. They make a...

    Hydraulic roller lifter issues???

Thanks for the replies everyone. Had to pull the driver's head to get to it as I could not get the valley cover out. I'll fix that issue from now on. The culprit is a broken plunger spring.

    Hydraulic roller lifter issues???

I am running the matched valve springs with the cam; 555 lbs open 220 lbs closed.bottom end assembled at Buds engine shop and heads at Honest Performance. I quadruple checked geometry degree of cam and measuring push rods. Anyways I left a message at Hughes this morning inquiring about a solid...

    Hydraulic roller lifter issues???

I think that's exactly what I'm going to do. I'm going to call Dave at Hughes on Monday and get some solids. I do not want to deal with this again. I work 50+ a week and time is not my friend. I also need to stop screwing around and get this thing on the Dyno. My shift points or a guess at...

    Hydraulic roller lifter issues???

With my Indy cylinder heads, the heads trap the valley cover. Nice :) Wasn't going to mention the brand, but they are Hughes.

    Hydraulic roller lifter issues???

How common is it to have one go bad? I have about 2500 miles on a zero decked 493 rb 12.5 to 1 street car; Brad penn oil with 3 oil changes. Took the road runner out yesterday. I got on it probably 5 different times. Taking it 6000 rpm. I my last WOT, I stabbed it, tires broke loose and it hit...

    The 493 Cross Ram Lives

Thanks superstockracer. I fiddled around with my idle screws via vacuum gauge and it likes 1.5 turns out. It will idle down to 900 without loading up, but have it at 1000. Been too busy to check metering rods but hope to tomorrow. Anyways, for the damage report, I fixed the rear and will...

    The 493 Cross Ram Lives

Well I guess it's cool that you make enough power to break things. I put M/T street ET's on it yesterday. Revved it to 4K and dumped the clutch. It grabbed, shifted at 6300. Slammed it into second and boom. I knew the 8.75 was my weak point but was in denial that I would hurt it on the street...

    The 493 Cross Ram Lives

First off thanks for your tips. It LOVED the changes. I had the dizzy out a couple times and decided to stay at 18 initial with 34 total all in by 3000 rpm. The out of the box firecore had 20 degrees of timing in it with heavy springs. I recalibrated my carb linkage also. I still have out of...

    The 493 Cross Ram Lives

The carbs do respond well. It doesn't bog at all. Well of course I can't find my springs for the distributor or advance gauges. Looks like the MP ones are not available anymore. I think I have a Mallory kit that looks close. I'll mess with the dizzy this weekend and report back. There are...

    The 493 Cross Ram Lives

Thanks. I'll take some timing out this weekend and move the initial up. Where do you think I should have 100% of the mechanical timing in by? After checking it today, it is 3500 rpm with the our of the box (street/strip) springs per Firecore. My old 10.1 383 was in at 2200. I'm no pro at this...

    The 493 Cross Ram Lives

Well here are the details. The car is a non numbers 383 4 speed 3.55 SG car. The MP 284/484 went flat last summer after 10 years and 20K miles. I had this cross ram stroker set up for another project but I lost that car. I had issues at first modding the Road Runner as it has never been cut or...
