Here's the 1st tach i got from them, pulled it out of the box before shipping it back....definitely affected my a magnet!
The needle 100% reacts to a magnet waved in front of it! I could definitely see the speaker magnet pulling the needle. I made a video of the gauge outside the vehicle too...
Not sure what's done to your radio, but mine is a factory '68 radio completely gutted and an aurora design bt 2.4 board installed( AM/FM/USB/Bluetooth)
The tach is steady enough with engine running to live with, the 1st one would not stop moving around! It's the needle resting at the 2ish...
Yes, before I put it in the dash I ran it in the engine compartment. Battery power removed and it sits at zero. Once in the dash is back pointing towards the speaker!
I'm not pulling the speaker, I hooked the tach up under the hood with jumper wires and it stays at 0 with ignition off....it's definitely a magnetic pull, I verified it outside the vehicle with a speaker I had laying around.....The guys over at AMS know about it there's just not a solid...
You're not wrong, it's bouncy when mounted in the dash...when I took it out and hooked it up under the hood with jumper cables it's was far more steady. Still jumped but much less. They sent me a replacement, will be to me on Monday and I'll mess with it some more.
Man, I'll do this Monday and see what happens. I don't see how a ground wire will stop the needle from being pulled by the speaker magnetic but definitely worth a shot! Sounds like we had the same exact issue and that added wire worked for you....I'll keep you posted!
Yes! Ok so all you did was add another ground? That screw into the metal socket is supposed to be the ground to the gauge as it is....your gauge rests at zero now with ignition off?
Just installed a new tach from charger specialties in my 68 coronet (standard dash), with the ignition off the needle slowly sweeps backwards and settles in around 6500rpm..key on it jumps to zero. Needle is erratic with engine running, bouncing around pretty good. Called them and one of the...
Reluctantly putting my 68 coronet (NOT A REAL BEE) for sale. I've owned this vehicle for over 11yrs and never thought I'd sell. Life happens and I just don't drive it like I used to and it kills me to see it sit still instead of burning Gas down the road! Previous owner did the Bee conversion...
I wish I never tossed my original in the garbage and replaced with it this new junk...still on the hunt for an OE one that I can send out and have rebuilt
