Some folks are forgetting 'HEADER CLEARANCES HERE'...
Most cars have header issues except maybe C-bodys.
Low deck engines give around one inch per side extra header clearance!
A-Bods especially early ones are notoriously bad for headers.
Low deck stroker Big blocks are a blessing and less...
Bet its the COIL!
They say you can run them in start mode, full 13.8 V.
BUT NO! they overheat and cut out...
10 VOLTS is plenty.
Don't ask me how I know...:mob:
So we are in 2025, five star Gas is a distant memory and where are we with Compression?
We have two choices at the pump now 5% or 10% ethanol.
What compression should we be running to maximise Pump Gas?
Just built THREE 440's with Six-pack (Indian) 2355 pistons and Felpro gaskets.
All three...
Very impressive times for smog motor compressions indeed!
Yep my mates car ran 12.50 with a crane 480 cam and 8.5 to 1 smog pistons.
But it hit a wall after that, it wouldn't get better, I guess that the lack of comp?
Fitted the old sixpack pistons now with the four cut-outs and a 509 purple...
It's good to see someone 'championing' the 383 engine at last!
383 blocks are common in the UK due to thousands of dead Jensen interceptors.
Its the age old problem, if you are rebuilding any Mopar engine its $5000 all day long.
So which on do you choose?
Up till now its been the 440 and for...
Back to basics methinks with a 383 engine.
The Mopar '516' wedge head was designed for the 361 and 383 engines.
It ended up on the 413/426 and then the 440, after the max wedge era.
It was never enough head for a 440 and is more suited to a 383.
In 1967 the infamous 915 was produced to correct...
Nice one Kjalltrac!
Great looking car and stock looking under the hood.
You just need a decent steel crank and trick rods then you can go 10's on the motor!
Better intake and a dominator that got us down to 10.40 N/A.
But next time out we are going 512ci and hoping for a N/A Nine...:drinks:
Anyone in the know about aluminum 318 Poly heads?
Copies of the originals or something trick...
Who is going to follow up with trick pistons, roller camshafts?
Is this the beginning or is this the end of Poly Engines.
As with all rebuilds, first 'port of call' is pistons!
What's out there and can I afford them?
Most custom builds are with custom made pistons and now we are talking expensive.
After that its a custom grind camshaft, can you find a big enough blank to start with?
There is talk of aftermarket...
My Moparmate in the UK went the 'extra mile' with his 318 Poly.
He has a 65 Poly Fury and its now a 402ci Poly-Fury.
4-inch bore and a 4-inch stroke.
The Poly block takes a PLUS 90 thou. with ease!
This stuff can be done you just have to put your mind to it...:usflag:
Old thread revival methinks.
The 354 Poly sounds awesome from OZ!
Its all about collecting the parts before you start a Poly build.
Intake is rare but they are out there.
Camshafts are even rare so a regrind in the best answer.
High compression pistons are still around.
Yep its gonna be...
Reply to 66-SAT,
Water is heavy just like the intake manifold on a Poly!
So a non water fed manifold, like Big Blocks is preferable.
A crossover has to be constructed as a separate feed from head to head.
The Hinkles drilled the heads at the front and fitted a crossover pipe (not fitted in...
hello Geoff-2,
You inbox is full so can you give anymore info on the aluminum heads please?
Gary Pavlovich was teaming up with poly-Power to have them made too.
When and where will they be available, do you know?
Best wishes from The 'old country' of England.

Great thread and some great points too.
OP has got some thinking to do indeed.
Our motto is ''small block cars stay small block''
Big block cars are too expensive to use on the street nowadays...
408ci is the 'new kid on the block' these days.
They run NINES with them in street cars!
383ci is...
Nice find Jamie!
Thought that was in the UK when I first saw the facebook advert.
My Moparmate in Uxbridge MA has sent me one now.
Its the end of and era for stock 440 engine parts after 50 years of FUN!
Best wishes to all on B-Bods
Good points and thanks for the replies.
Not everyone is running 440's down the track in anger.
This is for a friends very rare 1969 Charger 500.
Looked everywhere in the UK for a decent steel crankshaft and it looks like they is all gone!
$1149 for a stock replacement is plain crazy in my...
Hello again Moparfolks,
Looks like 'NEW' stock 440 parts are few and far between nowadays?
No one makes a steel 440 crank and very few bushed 6.760 x 1.094 rods as well.
I did have a feeling this was the case so it strokers only from here on in.
Best wishes from John UK
