    Oil passage restrictors

Per the Mopar Performance Engines book, pg 368, 426 Hemi (cylinder heads), Basic Cylinder Head Preparation "Check the cylinder head oiling hole. Be sure that it is open and that the drill didn't break off and remain in the hole. Check the block for a similar hole, both sides. The camshaft...

    Smokey burnouts..

Guessing this was a 318 car, since you wouldn't get a 8 1/4 with a 400. That said, atleast 3.54 gears and a higher stall TC would do wonders, But that small ujoint 8.25 aint gonna last long if it hooks up! Of course the easiest way would be with a windshield washer pump, a gallon of bleach, and...

Fuel used for High Performance 440

First step would be to confirm your compression, next would be to check your cam numbers. If the compression is what you say, the first thing that comes to mind from what you describe is ignition. What you have to understand is what octane is, which is resistance to ignite. This is how we are...

    Many questions, few solutions.

The "quick and easy" solution is what some of these one or two time posters are looking for. When they are told they must, as I call, do the dance; ie get out the multi meter, do some diagnostics, or give more specifics, they get frustrated and move along. Our younger members possibly didn't...

*HELP!* New Radio Smoking at dash!

Couple of things that I see here. First, don't know why you would connect radio to the ammeter because that receives full power from the battery and is always hot, much better to go to a battery accessory fuse. Second, what you seem to be calling the voltage regulator is the starter relay, what...

    Electric fuel pump power supply

Not sure if this is still the case, but if you race the car NHRA also wanted a kill switch near the back bumper in case of a wreck. In any case you want to have the relay wired to an ignition accessory on the fuse block. Mark

    Pistol Grip Idea

My comment was related to the OP, who said he was looking to do the scales in walnut. Everything I've seen on the interweb is plastic, not real wood. A nicly done set in black walnut would look alot nicer than the plastic wood grains. Mark

Shorty Headers vs. stock exhaust manifolds on '73 440

The thing to remember is that it's not 20 hp increase across the board, it slowly builds as RPM increases. Something to remember in a pure street car is what is going to be your top RPM, and how often you plan on getting there. 20 hp at 6000 doesn't really matter if you don't intend to spend...

Shorty Headers vs. stock exhaust manifolds on '73 440

What I would really like to see is a dyno comparison between headers and hp manifolds with a full street style exhaust. Every test I've seen show the headers/manifolds just straight tubed back, not all the bends and mufflers. Then use street RPM like a 5500-6000 top end. Mark

    non-ethanol fuel

You may want to bump up the initial timing to 10*-12* to find some more power. With as low as the compression was in the mid 70's, you shouldn't have a problem with detonation. Mark

    Hydraulic lifter pre-load

Well, Hughes lists the standard preload at .080-.095", so .045" is really not that much. I don't think I'd worry to much about .015" in this case and go with what the Mfg recommends. Mark

Changing engine from 360 to 440

Most likely you have a 8.25 rear dif, if you just plan on cruising the car the rear dif will hold up, but any hard starts/burnouts it won't last long. A bigger radiator and shroud may be required to keep it cool. Torsion bars are different, but just for cruising, the ones you have should work...

Identification of SB vs BB K-Member for 73/74

The K frame for 75-78 big block B bodies will also fit, there were a lot of Cordobas and Chargers with 400s in them. You may want to clearance the passengers inner fender, it can be a very tight fit with headers. Also be aware that there are 2 water pump housings, drivers side lower hose up to...

    1973-1978 400 "917 oil pan "

Yup, When I did the build I had the block machined per the Direct Connection engine book for the hemi pick up, not just retapping to 1/2 pipe. I mentioned the hemi pick up because it is bigger than the standard pick up and still fit with no problems. Mark
