    Engine Plant "C" Location?

Just wondering which plant was "C" as indicated on a 440 cast 10/31/69 as stamped on the Oil Pan Rail. (2C101487). 1972 Build? TIA.

    Decode 440 block

A friend built a 440 for me and used a block with a casting number of 2536430-5, casting date of 10, 31, 69. No numbers on the top of the deck but oil pan rail is stamped 2C101487. Guessing it was built in 1972 but not sure which plant was "C". Any thing else you guys can determine with this...

    Combination U-Joint 741 to 742 Swap

I guess that's what I get for believing the "Internet" in regards to the pinion nut size versus the spline count. I'm going to try a Moog 457 when it arrives. It's not like I have other pressing engagements currently...

    Have you encountered any non 8 3/4" 489 cases with a 1 3/16" or 1 1/4" pinion nut?

    Combination U-Joint 741 to 742 Swap

Not to worry...it's been a real "joy" from the git go with the mis-information I've been given. I'm hoping the local vendor can be flexible when it comes to "dry fitting" things...

    https://www.doctordiff.com/pinion-nut-and-washer.html If a 1 5/16" or 1 1/4" socket fits your original 8 3/4" nut, you have a 29 spline pinion. Otherwise, your 8 3/4" has a 10 spline pinion.

Fran....Yes that appears to be the same yoke I have. It came from a full size with 2.93? gears and sure-grip that I rebuilt and had Motive 3.73 gears installed.

    Combination U-Joint 741 to 742 Swap

The OEM 741 carrier I have has an 1 1/4" pinion nut versus the 1 1/8" nut on the 742. According to the Doc Diff the larger nut has the fine spline and the 742 that I have that is rebuilt and ready to install has the course spline pinion.

Fra...should have looked at your post before hitting "Post". Yes, I'm thinking the 457 is the one I need. What is the difference between the 457 and 454C? (Flush-type lube fitting in cross versus Regular Lube Fitting in Cross)

    Combination U-Joint 741 to 742 Swap

Thanks Fran. Is the yoke OEM? The Parts guy said it was aftermarket because it has the tabs. Not sure about that. I'm not sure about the driveshaft yoke and it's still too cold to be laying underneath to check. I'm guessing it's the same as the spare 741 yoke I have which is OEM. So far my...

    Combination U-Joint 741 to 742 Swap

The saga continues...I tried a 347 U-Joint only to find the caps are too large for the pinion yoke although it appears to be close in width. The other side seems to be correct as it fits the spare 741 yoke I have. The local supplier doesn't appear overly familiar with this yoke. The 742 yoke I...

    Combination U-Joint 741 to 742 Swap

Fran Blacker...When it warms up a bit more here in the Once Great White North (a dig at our buffoon Prime Minister), I'll have to get serious about seeing exactly what I have to do to get the Wagon "smokin" the tires". Of course, with the Grand Daughter safely buckled in her car seat.

    Combination U-Joint 741 to 742 Swap

The original 741 2.93's came with the Wagon in a 5 gallon pail when I bought it as the previous owner upgraded to a new carrier with 3.55's but no Sure-grip. I was going to take the yoke off the spare 741 and use it but when I tried to put the 1 1/8" socket on the pinion nut it was a "No Go". I...
