Anyone have the old DC 440 "recipes"?

That's funny. My brother and I did nearly the same thing. The cam we had in our 318 had a advertised durations of 298/308. It idled at about 1000 rpm, below that the fire would go out. I think I was 17. No way would ours run 14s, but it had one hell of a top end. We shifted into 2nd at 70mph...

Anyone have the old DC 440 "recipes"?

Sounds like a great deal on a 440. Your going to need some deals and luck to fit a tight budget. We still run 2295 pistons. Starting out with stock 906s and solid cam we ran a 11.6 with those pistons. 10s came later. I do still have a soft spot for MP stuff, its what we ran years ago. But...

Anyone have the old DC 440 "recipes"?

Quite frankly pistons and a cam swap would be a great start. Do that, gap the rings for NOS and hit kit...and it is what it is. Having goals is fine, but don't let it ruin the fun. There is always a faster car out there. Enjoy it. Knowing you made it faster then the last guy.

Anyone have the old DC 440 "recipes"?

Probably near 500. I do get the bb idea. We have a 65 dart that has a really small engine compartment, it has a 440. I am a bb guy all day long. But I wouldn't rule out a sb if your budget is tight. You are quite lucky to have a 340 for starters. We have a 340 4 speed as well, but its in a...

Anyone have the old DC 440 "recipes"?

Sure. Building a 500hp 340 will be pretty rowdy, it will help keep you unhinged.

Anyone have the old DC 440 "recipes"?

11.5 e.t. can be done w 500hp and some good 60' times w a stock stroke 340. Steel crank sb stroker kits I've seen for $2500, depending on whose kit it us. Driving on the street, running a bigger engine will make it more drivable. Probably worth it, if you can swing it.

Anyone have the old DC 440 "recipes"?

Why not pick up another 340 block if your not content with doing a 360. 340s are out there. You could do a stroker and save a bunch of time and money swapping over parts off your current 340 and keep down time minimal. Your goals are doable with a small block and if your thinking that painting...

    possible bad converter?

Its common to advanced it 2 to install the cam like it would while operating. That would be 101 on the intake. It is odd that you had to advance it 5 to get the intake to 103.5? Typically timing chains aren't that far off. Its possible, but unusual.

    295/65/15 Fitment

We have the 295/65r15 M/T e.t. streets on our 69 charger. The lower front corner of the quarter was previously tweeked with a hammer from when we ran 10.5x30.5 slicks. The rearend needs to go back 1/2" minimum to clear a stock quarter which is what I wished we had done. I think we have a 8" rim...

How to force pistons out of 383

Use what you have such as emery paper on a drill, wire wheel or hone and clean the cylinders up above the pistons. Focus on the rods you can unbolt first. Usually it takes time soaking to dissolve rust. Many make their own cocktail such as a combination of transmission fluid mixed with diesel or...

Help with 340 build - chicagoland area

Consider edelbrock E streets. They have a 75cc chamber, stealths are 80cc. A '70 383 needs all the compression it can get. Not sure where your coming up with 420hp? Her is a 383 enginemaster build:

    H vs X Pipe ?

I had not considered that. We are planning on puting side exit exhaust on the fenderwell headers on our 440 65 dart. I would think it would still balance the exhaust out. Maybe needs a bigger H pipe?

    H vs X Pipe ?

The mufflers have a pretty long body. Walker dynomax on both cars. We had a 510 in the charger first w the exhaust and it had a little more raspy tone then the 440. Almost a shrill..if I were to describe it. It took a bit getting good used to..I really like it now. Both cars are fun to drive...

    H vs X Pipe ?

The charger has 3" the trans am is 2 1/2. They both are decent going down the road. There is no drone. I don't really think the raspy note is as noticable other then idle. The trans am has 3.23s and a 4 speed w 2 1/2 x pipe.. Here it is wound up. I don't have a video of the charger.
