wow very cool! Thank you for finding that out. I think I'll still give that number a call. We will be staying at Sams Town. I know it's not really in the thick of things but Vegas still just makes me nervous.
MATS has been my favorite event to go to for a few years now. I finally may be able to bring one of my cars. It is a survivor/project car that I would prefer not to have to drive back and forth to the hotel in Vegas each night. Does anyone know if its commonplace to park your car at the show...
There's nothing better than a triple green muscle car! Your New Yorker is one stylin machine, nice! I'm in my mid 30s and have been lucky enough to score this green Pontiac Tempest that I daily drive quite a bit. I nearly started painting my 70 Bee project green, but since it still has its...
You make a good point. I wish I lived closer to the F.A.S.T events. I would love to check those cars out and watch them run! I bet nearly every one of them has had the edge of the quarter panel welded up at some point. It is a known issue with these cars, I just wouldn't be willing to put more...
In my opinion the stock drivetrain pushed these cars too far, especially A12 cars. The cars that got driven hard got twisted a little and have the crack on the top front edge of the quarter panel. If you have a nicely restored car that does not have any reinforcing done to it than why would you...
I would start by removing the interior panel and feel in there to see if there is any dirt/leaves etc. Then blow it out real good and spray eastwood internal frame coating in there if you want to try and hold it longer. Spray the internal frame coating such that it starts running out of the...
That's awesome! I love the steel wheel look but am battling a vibration with one of my OE steel wheels on one of my other old cars. I may have to get a bubble balancer. They look so simple I have been skeptical. My next thing that I am going to try is to get a road force balance done. If I can...
Agreed. If the OP wants it bad enough he can fix that car! There have been worse looking chargers that have been brought back, although they do take a very long time to get done. If I were the OP, and in the interest of having fun with an old muscle car I would sell it and use that money to get...
You can fix it! Looks like doing a whole front clip swap would be your best choice. I have a pretty decent whole front clip on a 70 coronet 4 door I would potentially sell if you are interested. Look up build threads by Kern Dog on his Jigsaw charger, he goes into good detail and fixed similar...
For sure, I bet it would be worth the wait and cost if you can the AMD panels. Yeah ditch the strip discs, I use 80 grit and 120 grit discs and I keep them moving as to not chew on the metal too much on the edges, etc. These cars have thin and wobbly panels and it can be difficult to get them...
Once you cut out the lower quarter in front of the wheel you will probably find that the outer rocker is rusted out and will need repaired. The quickest easiest way to fix all of this is with new AMD quarters, either patch the areas or do the whole quarter. Patching the quarters just above the...
I hadn't thought of those similarities to the Chevelle before. Pretty cool. Also my viewpoint I feel is a bit different from some of the older fellows. I'm in my mid 30s and tend to like the more extreme and interesting body styles ( think 1970 Mercury Montego MX haha). A 1971 Buick Riviera is...
Favorite car of all time is a 70 super bee but once I saw a 71 Charger RT in person I became a huge fan. Some days I wish I had a 71 Bee instead of my 70. The 71-72 B bodys are wicked cool and especially with the hideaway headlights. The upward swoop of the charger quarter glass is just too...
I did the lower core support stiffener on mine and it sure seems like it helped a lot. I can pick up the front of the car by it now with no issue at all. The factory piece isn't adding any useful support at all and IMO there is nothing stout at all with the way these cars were built.
I painted the engine bay successfully. I also found that looking for images of 70 parts cars for sale helped me to identify what holes were factory. I was able to weld in a new stud and fix an insert as well. I painted during a cold snap in UT but all went well!
If you are wanting to keep your repair area small and/or take the lazy way out, a finishing glaze (USC Icing) would give you some more build than putting thick primer on that area. The glaze will adhere well to a properly sanded surface and would easily build up to the level of the existing...
