what signals the coil to spark ??
the coil has lots of spark cold
almost none hot (does not want to start when hot any more) i even put cold coil when engine was hot still would not start
i've been trying all the things suggested!!!
when engine is hot something won't let coil spark !!! hhmmmm
put another coil seem to have good spark but not consistant
noticed spark on the firewall when my wife was cranking.
Wire with yellow tag that says fusable link is bare and swollen must have over heated,
i put tape on it

i'll put another coil and condencer after lunch and check distributor and cap
spark was very poor this morning cold and long periods between

66 plymouth 383 car starts good cold
hard to start warm and sometimes cuts out while driving
last night every 1000 feet it would cut out then after much crancking start back up
did this 7 times before i did 120 miles no issues
past years ive checked fuel pump & push rod , gas filter ...
it cut out again this morning
what does that orange electrical box on the firewall do???
TDC on compression and i put a mark on balancer wich comes out to about 6" before factory mark
when i turn dial on timming light it shows running good at 30-35* advanced
the only thing i haven't done is rotate distributor 180*
has anyone tried rotating and what is procedure

just got the car- engine was idling really bad-don't have any history on the car- rear leaf springs are sacked- frt suspention needs a lot of work-(rubber bushings etc) dual exhaust was butchered and leaking the car has to be completly gone over , but i'm enjoying it.

ok good to know that distributor only works one way (my 55 ford was 180* out and ran OK)
the car starts and runs good
the pointer is no where near the mark on the balancer(impossible to time with a light)
the balancer mark is 4 to 5" inches after the pointer
the pointer is at 9-10 oclock and...
i got the car running good but timming marks dont work.
#1 @ TDC compression stroke and balancer mark is at the top about 4" ATDC so i guess that means rotar is 180 out
i guess its tine to do as you suggested and rotate 180*
