Yeah I was reading this thread remembering a buddy in HS, piling 8 or more of us in his 72 Newport and just pumping up the air shocks to compensate for the load on road trips. Good times.
If you're good with $600 for a shroud, just buy a remote filter kit for around $100. That's what I plan to do with my '68.
Find a convenient spot nearby that tucks the filter and hoses out of harm's way, but is still accessible. Check the adapter periodically for leaks and replace orings as...
+1 on the HF Daytona. Never a lick of trouble with it.
For stands I've had no problems with my JC Whitney 3 ton stands from 1990 (still stored in the original cardboard box - I'm OCD .) Or the Powerbuilt from the same era. I've had all my cars on them.
But for new models check out this review...
Sweet! Nice job and beautiful car!
Love Winchester Grey! I painted my old 65 Coronet that color and you're right, it can look different depending on the light.
On my 65 Coronet had the same issue using a 68 disc booster.) I couldn't move the switch bracket close enough. No welder, etc. so added a short L-bracket to the pedal bolt (double-lock washers on the threaded side of the bolt to avoid binding the pedal.) Worked great for the 15 years I daily...
Nowadays not do much. Or at all...
Back in the day, maybe... I commuted my 65 Coronet in the early 90s because I didn't want to drive some Honda around, like 99% of people at the time. ☹️
But gas was still cheap! I remember it cracking $1 per gallon for the first time. My stock 335hp 383 and...
People do all kinds of crazy stuff... My 65 Coronet 500 had two fratzog hood emblems screwed to the trunk panel by a previous owner. NOT factory, but I liked them and didn't have the $$$ to restore the panel or get NOS at the time.
One thing I don't hear mentioned much about headers is the heat... A good set of ceramic coated headers will take the underhood temp down.
Except for an old driver 68 Polara 4-door, I've always run headers for power.
I couldn't believe the difference on my 65 Coronet 383 vs stock manifolds...
Maybe I misunderstood him then. He was pretty certain my first gen Sniper wouldn't handle a cat well, because it didn't have that second sensor. Could be he was thinking of it from an efficiency perspective. Honestly he was info dumping on me pretty hard as he was going through the fuel maps...
I wanted to put cats on my 68 Charger, but my father in law (who tunes EFI systems professionally) said I couldn't do that. The base sniper unit only has one oxygen sensor. You need a system with upstream and downstream sensors to make the cats work.
In addition to what everyone said, there...
Love that tool! 20+years ago when I had one break it took me and a buddy with some stout wire and turnbuckles to ease the new one in.
No one lost an eye and the trunk still worked fine when I sold it a few years back.
Here's the deal... I'm one of those purists. I never owned a Hemi 'cuda. (I wish!) I owned a 65 Coronet (383) for 20 years and eventually sold it to get my dream car: a 68 Charger. But it's not a real R/T, BB car - just a 318 swapped for a 440 stroker. And I blame Barrett Jackson on the...
Everyone's given you a good run down of problem areas. I owned an ex-Arizona 65 Coronet that still had minor rust in the lower doors and quarters (where all the window gunk gathers moisture.)
Parts chasing is fun, with trim and unique parts the worst. Not many parts repopped for these cars...
I know this is an old thread, but jic it's still an issue...
Sounds exactly like my 65 Coronet setup. Brakes were swapped from a 70s Mopar before I bought it. MC, calipers, etc. the same as yours, except a stock pressure valve/distribution block.
I had a similar experience, due to lack of...
