Regardless of the actual deck clearance you obviously have to much for a performance camshaft. I don’t know your bank account or power goals but if you can swing some pistons with CH that puts you near zero deck and a hone job you would have a much better foundation to build on.
It makes my blood boil when someone tells me they have a 383 in they’re cheby. No you don’t you have a 327 or 350 stroker. I can’t even search the internet for 383 without specifying Mopar.

Ya so inspectors are expected to know what every factory cat looks like? I say if the replacement was done properly. I wonder how anyone would know different?

That being said that looks like a lot of ring ridge. If you had a dark shadow maybe. But you still got rust there. I think a bore might be necessary.
How does one identify a California cat from a non-California cat. If the vehicle calls for a cat or 2 and it has said equipment in place who’s to say its not compliant?
Delaying the camshaft events moves power up in rpm. So your early intake opening tells me the cam has advance ground into it. Thus moving the power down in rpm. Without careful measurements I wouldn’t advance the camshaft any further.
Ok if uncle Tony says that works I believe that works. You still need to check piston to valve clearance further down the bore. Piston is coming up the bore as the exhaust valve is open. And the Intake valve is opening faster than the piston is going down the bore
I have not heard of that method of degreeing a camshaft. At TDC power stroke I would expect all valves fully closed. At TCD exhaust stroke I would expect both valves open. As to which one is open more I could not predict that.
Yes it will shift the power band down a few rpms. With that cam I would definitely look into checking piston to valve clearance moving the camshaft can create a clearance problem. There is plenty of tutorials of the process.
I think premium pump gas will be fine with factory pistons and factory cylinder heads. You probably have 10:1 ratio or less. Unless you had the block decked and cylinder heads milled a bunch. Did you use a factory style steel shim head gasket or aftermarket composite? As stated thats a big...
