255-60/15 on 15X7 front, 275-60/15 on 15X8 rear. No clearance problems. I have manual steering so gets difficult in parking lot. Dana 60 with 3.54:1 ratio, 2500 rpm @ 60 mph
Graduated high school 1974. Bought this '72 442 350/4 speed in 1976 before going away to college. North of 200000 miles. Excellent cruiser that gets decent mileage. 3.23:1 Still take it to shows today. Great car even though not Mopar.
While replacing radiator in a 2002 Jeep I noticed that the coolant overflow bottle would fit in my '71 charger. Used existing hardware so no drilling of new holes. Parts from Rock Auto and McMaster-Carr.
Yes it can be saved but you really have to want it and have the desire to learn (if you do it yourself). This car took me 7 years and about 4000 hours. All in all very rewarding but once is enough for that extensive of a project. I was lucky to have a very sound roof and trunk gutters even...
Forgot to include factory service manual with wiring diagram showing wire and tracer colors is a good reference. Especially for dash and engine compartment.
My '71 needed entire rewire. I used M-H from Year One. High quality product and made job easier. Take plenty of detailed pics and make notes that will help getting it back in working order. Make labels with tape and sharpie.
Greetings from north central IL. Nice SE. Good work. These are the best driving platforms.
By the way is your car an E code plant build? (L.A.plant). This is my '71 SE on the way home from the hills of Nevada. Very solid car.
.
My '71 charger SE had one. 383 HP, 727 column auto. I did not put it back in. I saw a '73 Rallye charger, 440, column 727 on a lift and it had one. First thought I had was vibration control.
I forgot about the charcoal canister. I am not too familiar with '73, but I assume that the canister goes to your vapor separator near fuel tank. The smaller line (3/16")? goes to the filter/vapor separator as part of the fuel pump assembly.
the single line coming off of the vapor separator connects to the 3 nipple (smallest one ) valve cover vapor collector on the passenger side. Right under the pass hood hinge. The small line coming off of the sending unit goes to the fuel filter/vapor return just above the fuel pump.
I agree that there is a delicate balance that can get out of control. When planning the outward appearance of my '71 SE I liked the "less is more" route. Less clutter and leaning towards sleeper. The body has some beautiful lines that should be accented. Too much results in too busy.
I get a...
My LA built '71 SE. Scheduled production March 1971. These are the clips that were still in the car when I dragged it home. Never realized that there were running changes.
You are correct in assuming the retainers without the folded piece have been broken off. If you have never removed these from the roof rail before, it can be a frustrating experience releasing the plastic piece from the retainer. Someone took a "short cut" and pried the piece over to expose the...
I rebuilt my entire interior, and I honestly do not recall seeing these as part of the interior. Mine is a '71 SE. My bows did not use any clips. Insert ends in 1 of 3 holes for adjustment. Could those plates have been spot welded to any framework? (interior of doors or 1/4 windows)
