70 Charger having trouble starting in park when cold

I hear yah Mike. Thanks. But I just went to the car in Park cold just now (I started it and ran it yesterday), pulled the NSS connection to the starter relay, put a test light and it is grounded. Just now, I went to start the car cold and in Park and when I went to crank it, it cranked the...

70 Charger having trouble starting in park when cold

Hey Kern, I would not rule out. It could be the shifter linkage adjustment This symptom did it before the new NSS and it does it after the new NSS and the previous mechanic did adjust the shifter leakage and he also replace the leaking seal. I know the mechanic had some issues with this so...

70 Charger having trouble starting in park when cold

I was thinking the starter or startey relay and I eventually may just change it as not expensive. What boggles my mind is that when I switch the car into neutral the car will turn over as many times that I want - if it was the starter, it would have the same symptom regardless of the gear...

70 Charger having trouble starting in park when cold

Purepony, just out of curoisity for understanding of the problem that you had, your car ran great otherwise after starting, but did not crank at all when cold or for awhile and adjusting your timing fixed that? I take it adjusted your timing did not negatively impact it after it did start...

70 Charger having trouble starting in park when cold

Thanks, don't think it is a timing problem. If it was just the timing the car would crank but would not run or run poorly - that isn't this case here. I think it is some type of electrical problem where the engine is not cranking at all under certain conditions mostly in Park after not...

70 Charger having trouble starting in park when cold

Hi, I have been having trouble starting the 70 Charger when cold when transmission is in park. As some of you may remember, I posted awhile ago that I had this problem and I eventually replaced the neutral safety switch because I just assumed that it was because when it turn crank it cranked...

Did anyone notice how expensive 67 to 71 Mopar mucscle cars have gotten?

$5,000 invested in the S&P would be $265,000 excluding dividends. With dividends a lot more. Yeah I was not thinking about going back to 1970, I was referring back to maybe the last 5 (mostly) to 15 years or so max. If you are going to hold cash for 50 years, yeah the market is way better.

What fuel do you use for your Mopar?

Thanks Detective. By the way, with the regard to the hardened seats - would you please describe the difference and how it relates to fuel? Just curious. I remember talking with a Mopar expert several months ago and he told me I was lucky to have the Oct 1972 engine because it would be...

Did anyone notice how expensive 67 to 71 Mopar mucscle cars have gotten?

I remember when my dad bought my first car, a 71 Pontiac Convertible for $100 in '86. It was a good deal because it was from a friend and it was dirty from sitting from being stored outside under a tree. Back then 87 gas was $.67 a gallon. Today 87 gas is 5 time as much. No way I can get...

What fuel do you use for your Mopar?

What fuel do you use for your Mopar? My 440 engine was manufactured in Oct 1972. When I have time and not in a pinch, my go to Sunoco 93 Ethanol free (~ $5/gallon). My second option is Shell 89 Ethanol free. I am fortunate I live near two gas stations that have ethanol free. I also...

Did anyone notice how expensive 67 to 71 Mopar mucscle cars have gotten?

How long have you had your Mopar? Remember decades ago that you could get a 67 to 71 Dodge or Plymouth for $5K? Back in the day my brother and friends all had em. All blue collar guys. Now it seems like a rich person's game. I just did a search for a 70 Dodge Charger and they range from...

70 Charger - Mechanic says "Transmission Selector Shaft" is leaking and wants 8 hours labor to replace

As an update, the mechanic ultimately said that if he was to do it, he was going to either remove the whole tranny or the headers as he just didn't see enough room to get it done without one or the other. I argued back and forth and went to the shop myself. My headers made it tight but to me...

Help Needed: Need Transmission Neutral Safety Switch for '70 Dodge Charger - 727 Trans (all I try leak like crazy)

Some super glues are rated for 275F so I can see that working at least for awhile. I would hate to trust that on long trips though. I cannot believe that that the Chinese ones leaks so bad. It's not that hard to make.

    Recore or replace?

    - Yes these double fans looks like around 15 to 50 AMPs depending on the model and will matter a bunch especially if you have Air Con.

    Recore or replace?

Well the one I bought was made/sold by Champion - it was one of the few Aluminum rads that I found to fit my configuration. I don't know which or if it is an alloy - the site just says all Al (100%). Good point though.
