Must have been a massive job... I don't know why they would have done it in the first place... The paint is really thick even in 2024 - I reckon many coats would have been required... That would have been a lot of hours and a bunch of paint :)
A great point... Under the hood is black... Not sure why they repainted the trunk... I suppose most drivers open the trunk a lot more often than the hood... Thanks for your advice :)
Thank you mate for cracking the codes for me.
All of these features are on the vehicle (the tinted windshield being the only exception - obviously windshields require replacement from time to time.)
Some others have said it was originally finished in black (X9). If it was finished in X9, I...
Thanks for your reply. I originally thought it could have been a 383-4 with the twin pipes. I guess that was standard at the time for the 383-2. Probably a good thing because we have to pay $12 US per gallon at the moment... From what I have read the 383-4 used even more gasonline.
Thank you...
Thanks for your help mate... I think I will turn it back to black when I save enough $$$... I think it would look awesome in the original X9.... Have a great day :)
Hi everyone
As the proud new owner of a 69 Chrysler Newport Convertible, I was just wondering if anyone knew how I could interpret this fender plate...
I can work out it's a 383-2b with cloth seats, but that's about it...
It also has Newport Custom badges on the car, but I thought Newport...
As an unknowledgeable Australian, does that mean something like March Madness...
Or did they actually make some convertibles with the 4 barrel 383?
Grateful for your advice.
Thanks - I think you are right. I don't think any convertible customs were even made. I think the custom badges have been added, along with the twin pipes.

Why do you guys in America think the 383 wasn't a great motor? This thing goes hard...
Hi - I just collected my 1969 383 Newport Convertible.
It has been badged as a Newport Custom.
I can't find any information to confirm that any convertible customs were ever manufactured.
It has twin pipes, but the carburetor has only one snorkel.
Either way I am happy with even a standard...
Hey Jerry - sorry for the delay in getting back to you, but that sounds like a great idea. I have been to the deep south a few times (many years ago), but will make sure I get along to Wellbourne.... I've been so close (Nashville, Memphis), but didn't know of the museum until you mentioned it...
Thanks for your welcome and your suggestions... they are great ideas that I'll look into. I only learned (well after I bought it) that the Chrysler SRT that I owned until recently was manufactured in Canada... I just presumed that all North American Chrysler's were manufactured in the US...
