Thanks for replys, looks like worst fears confirmed. The block is toast. Has already been decked a lot to get pistons at deck height, so looks like starting from scratch.

    440 head gasket seal advice

Hi all After some head gasket advice. Have searched the forum but cant seem to find an answer. Have an overheating of 440 looks like it was caused by non sealing head gasket. Heads were badly milled, some head bolts seemed a bit loose around middle cylinders, motor had standard felpro gaskets...

Thanks for the info, Was hoping someone could make sense of the gasket blemishes. Definitely looking like the heads weren't sealing. Took the heads to machine shop today and the guy said the heads were roughly milled and not surfaced sp you were spot on. Have measured the deck now, both sides...

    440 , rebuild or use

I will probably be using another block if I have to do a full rebuild and will definitely get that done. Was hoping I might avoid pulling the engine,l and rebuilding, if there's a chance the leak was caused by the heads not sealing.

    440 , rebuild or use

Looking for some advice from the knowledgeable people here. Have had the heads removed from 60" over 440 after confirming engine had a combustion leak, after eliminating other overvheating causes. The engine also had some oil in coolant but no coolant in oil. Was hoping the head gaskets may...

906 heads, aluminium heads, 452 heads

Thanks for reply. I'm not sure what brand the headers are, but the rt side have been cut and rewarded by an exhaust shop to fit the engine bay. Headers are standard block hugger, not sure of brand. At 21.00 minutes, shows the modifications to make them fit, done by the guy who originally did...

906 heads, aluminium heads, 452 heads

Would have been a better way to go but there's too much invested now in the big block motor, trans and custom tailshaft.

906 heads, aluminium heads, 452 heads

Can get the plugs out on the right side using a cut down tube spanner to get to 4 and 6 and short 13/16 spanner.

906 heads, aluminium heads, 452 heads

Engine is in a 1963 Dodge Phoenix, which is an Australian assembled Dodge 440. The motor sits much closer to the right side which I think is pretty standard for all models to allow for left hand drive steering. Aus Phoenix is right hand drive but motor sits in the same position in engine bay

906 heads, aluminium heads, 452 heads

Hi all Looking at replacing 906 heads on 69 440. (Mechanic thinks the car has a cracked head as has a combustion leak and some oil in coolant). Just looking at my options before getting the heads removed( have a spare block in case there's issues there). As you can see from the pictures, the...

Cragar SS mags multifit noises coming from drum

Hoping to get some thoughts on Cragar SS rims on early brake drums. Have multifit 15 x8s on the rear of 1963 tapered axle diff. Have been getting some weird noises that sounded like they were coming from the rt rear hub. Pulled the wheel off and it looks like one of the balance weights on the...

    Hot running 440 60" over

As far as I know it's 60 over 440. Trying to avoid having to find a new block, pistons etc, but as you have found with those couple of blocks you mentioned may be that this block cannot be cooled due to wall thickness or. Will exhaust all options before pulling motor down.
