New fly wheel did not have a recess on the back of it so flywheel no longer interferes and rubs on the inspection cover. The old flywheel was the issue but still don’t know why that old flywheel was used or what it’s from.

We are thinking that might be the trick. There wasn’t an inspection cover on the car when i bought the car 20 years ago. I’m thinking now i know why.

Yes. I even bought an actual 11 inch inspection cover to make sure it wasn’t the re-pop. The reconditioned factory inspection cover wont even go on unless we take the bell housing off and then it fits like glove. bellhousing and inspection cover are both original Chrysler parts and 11 inch.

The repop inspection cover is painted black and 11 inch and fits the bellhousing but touches the flywheel. The second inspection cover is a reconditioned factory part in red primer. It wont even align with the bellhousing for the screws to go in. Appears the flywheel is in the way. The...

Flywheel was not backwards, see photos below where clutch pads made marks on machined surface. Also engine is brand new, never started.

Yeah we are trying to figure out if there are some reference numbers/measurements for clearances between the block and the crank or flywheel and block.

This a 68 440 4 speed with all original parts I believe. The flywheel rubs against the inspection cover. We found this when we tried to turn the engine over by hand. Motor would turn easily before we mated the 833 to it. We removed the inspection cover and engine would turnover easily...
