    Flywheel rubs against inspection cover

New fly wheel did not have a recess on the back of it so flywheel no longer interferes and rubs on the inspection cover. The old flywheel was the issue but still don’t know why that old flywheel was used or what it’s from.

    Flywheel rubs against inspection cover

This care seemed to have taken some abuse, as they all did. Never understood why someone would paint the springs and the rear end white but whatever. You can see photos from when i first purchased the car, no inspection cover on the assembly. So guess it’s not a new issue. Guess I should run...

That is an option. Thanks. But, makes me nervous. Want everything as it should be. Guess I don’t under why who ever had this car before me did this.

    Flywheel rubs against inspection cover

We’ve discussed shimming various locations and even shimming or using a spacer between the crank and flywheel but id like to get to the bottom of it and solve the problem rather than shimming. I do appreciate the comment. We’ve discussed it. Just hate to shim something then put the motor in...

    Flywheel rubs against inspection cover

We are thinking that might be the trick. There wasn’t an inspection cover on the car when i bought the car 20 years ago. I’m thinking now i know why.

    Flywheel rubs against inspection cover

Yes. I even bought an actual 11 inch inspection cover to make sure it wasn’t the re-pop. The reconditioned factory inspection cover wont even go on unless we take the bell housing off and then it fits like glove. bellhousing and inspection cover are both original Chrysler parts and 11 inch.

    Flywheel rubs against inspection cover

The repop inspection cover is painted black and 11 inch and fits the bellhousing but touches the flywheel. The second inspection cover is a reconditioned factory part in red primer. It wont even align with the bellhousing for the screws to go in. Appears the flywheel is in the way. The...

    Flywheel rubs against inspection cover

Flywheel was not backwards, see photos below where clutch pads made marks on machined surface. Also engine is brand new, never started.

    Flywheel rubs against inspection cover

Not sure if photos help but here they are. Just Bought a new, “reconditioned” inspection cover and this one won’t even align with the bellhousing holes. But it will mate up perfectly to the bell housing when the bell housing is not on the block. Didn’t know we had this issue because I bought a...

    Flywheel rubs against inspection cover

Yeah we are trying to figure out if there are some reference numbers/measurements for clearances between the block and the crank or flywheel and block.

    Flywheel rubs against inspection cover

This a 68 440 4 speed with all original parts I believe. The flywheel rubs against the inspection cover. We found this when we tried to turn the engine over by hand. Motor would turn easily before we mated the 833 to it. We removed the inspection cover and engine would turnover easily...
