MSD's need GREAT grounds (and connections to power). Make sure the engine is grounded very well too. Sometimes running rough will generate mysterious noises. Loose torque converter bolts once had me thinking I had a rod knock.
My Charger did that twice before I found out the motor mounts allowed the engine to twist a lot and the pinion angle was way off. I reset the pinion angle to 7 degrees down and made a strap to prevent the engine twist and it never happened again. (the car was going 11.50 in the quarter)

I used ATF in street cars for years until I bought a 2010 Ram. Never had a problem. I use Power Steering Fluid now, though. Oil technology, or fluid technology has probably come a long way. Maybe it's better, or maybe it's just marketing.

I got started racing chargers with another 73 street car 440 auto that I got to go 13.20 on a great day. It would move ahead a few feet and then spin.... almost like a tire shake. Longer shocks fixed that. At least adjustable shocks will allow some control of rise and tire plant.
For street or...
I currently use the shocks from Cal Trac (Ranchos, I think). When I had stock springs I used longer shocks from Mopar Performance. Longer, adjustable shocks in the rear are worth the money. This winter I'm goiing to switch up to QA-1s.....I have Cal Tracs on both the Barracuda and the Charger.
I've seen many Quickfuel carbs at the track.
The only experience I have is with Holley. Recently I bought a 1050 Dominator XP for the Barracuda.
The other experience with Holley is a 950 XP E85 carburetor for the Charger. Excepting idle adjustments these carbs were bolt on and go. These...
Thanks for the responses. I think I'm going to go with cheap 9" straight thru mufflers hung on the back of the header and end it there. If that gives me trouble, now I have another idea.....an electric vacuum pump. Thanks again for the advice!

Looking for anyone with experience on this:
I've been running a mild 499 stroker (racing only) for years with open headers and the crankcase vents run to the collectors for vacuum. If I put mufflers on these headers how much will that mess up my crankcase vacuum?

What is you 60 ft time? When I had a 440 in the charger it went about 7.30@92 mph or so.
It had a hand me down 5000 stall converter and a 430 gear. It would 60ft around 1.50 (not suitable for street at all).
Sound like your car has a lot of top end charge....but not so much holeshot.

My previous 73 was a 440 auto with power steering and brakes. A set of 1 7/8" tube Hookers fit OK once they were on but it was quite a chore. They said you can get them in easiest from underneath with the car in the air. I don't have a hoist so I picked the engine up so I could sneak them in...
I put one in my Charger. It was definitely trim to fit in the front, and I had to fabricate mounting. All in all not terribly difficult.
I made a mistake by not buying the end caps. Sorry can't get pictures of it right now.
