Chris does the engine you have for the car have any vin information from what it is out of originally? Myself and good friend of mine keep a Hemi vin list of cars, engines ect. that show up, so I was curious.

Chris, the car shows up on the NHOA hemi vin list that was published in 1990, the last name of the owner in 1978-82 time frame was Lewis. I know that is not a lot of information but it might give you something to look into.

Do you know what the torque was before on the nut? If it came apart and went back exactly the same as far as the pinion depth shims are concerned, the only thing I can think is maybe you are torqueing it down tighter than it was before. A lot of times when you first torque them it will feel...
just curious but do both the clamps come with the tubes? The first clamp appears new with a bolt, the second one pictured has no bolt, and appears to be a used one.
