You are preaching to the choir. I agree.
My uncles 68 barracuda with a 3.91 gear, 9 inch K mart slicks and a his 383 with a purpleshaft and "smoothie" nitrous kit in it went 11.80s in the 80s if I remember right....>MEEP MEEP will know exactly. I do know it was an original 383 68 big block...
Here is what I know, first hand. Yes I guess I am throwing a 3rd engine into the mix if the OP is asking about a standard 4 barrel 383 versus a hp 383 and not a 2 barrel motor..
I have one that hasnt been touched. I can take pics and speak with real world first hand knowledge. I have a 69 330...
Pistons and valvesprings are the only INTERNAL differences that I see with my OWN eyes on my 1968 2 barrel non hp motor versus my 1969 4 barrel hp motor.
I have yet to measure the camshafts so I cannot speak with FIRST hand knowledge, not just **** I read in a book.
Others will chime in Iam...
Hell yea it was a score! Got it COMPLETE for $400 bux and I aint gotta pull it. Also got the entire electronic ignition setup out of it (non lean burn) I aint gonna use it, but I got it!!!
Bought a perfect running, no noise making, non smoking, no blow by, fired right up COLD 48,000 mile 1978 440 for my 66 Charger to get it to move under its own power while I build a decent big block for it.
