make sure there is no play in the accelerator pump arm. also check secondaries are not opening too soon. Stumble under light acceleration usually means low float level or faulty idle curcuit ...

I think it could be vapor lock, fuel is boiling out of carb....Leaving you empty for start up. AFB carter, you can remove top of carb without removing it from intake to do some checks.

There are factors which will cause dieseling....hot running engine, carb running too lean.(throttle blades are open too much.)..fuel octane too low....carbon buildup....late timing... vacuum leak.idle speed being set just a little high...
I have rebuilt a few in the passed... Not to difficult... I have a friend, he's been in the business for 30 years rebuilding carbs in the Mount Vernon, NY... Great work there....He has tons of cores etc.....

I Rebuilt the stock Carter AFB carb on my 67 GTX 1 year ago. I noticed small leakage from throttle shaft. My complaint today is fuel dripping out of the throttle body by the throttle shaft again AFTER the engine is switched off. I still have Difficultly in starting the vehicle when it sits...
