Okay I started with a STANT 10806 from Orielly and that did not fit. Tried a 10807 STANT and it fits REALLY SNUG, but it fits. The vent lets air in and not out (tested with a mitivac and some heatshrink tube).

The turn signal switch disconnects the brake lamp from the side that needs to flash. Are both brake lamps out when the turn signal is actuated?
First suspect cause is turn signal switch, but need more information.
The relay eliminates any voltage drop through the bulkhead and switch, etc.
You provide direct battery to headlamp pin by implementing the relay. You also save any wear on your electrical connections.
Find an old school upholstery shop. They might have used springs that will fit. I had a broken spring and my upholstery shop had a used one that worked.
