You did not mention what cam is in the 440 Pretty much the same engine I built. 440 30 over 452 heads and speed pro pistons. I ran the Summit K6401 cam and had 16 degrees initial and 36 all in. No pinging. But then again it was not on a drag strip. Hell we even used the same pistons. My numbers...
If you start at a standard bore size and you have it bored 30 over you will need to get new pistons. If you bore it 40 over you will need to get new pistons. You will also need to get new rings as well. Going from standard bore to 40 over would have way too much piston to cylinder wall gap the...
They were called the corvette killer. The GN was a bad little ride.
Found this on a Youtube video about a GN vs a Z06
"I'm in the Grand National. I thought I'd get beat by the Z06, but I hole-shot him and even though he had a quicker ET and higher trap speed, he didn't quite run me down."
87...
My second one. I think was a 79 Rx7. It was in grey primer the whole time I had it. It was easier to touch up the primer than it was to wash it. So I bet it had 37 coats of primer.
Thing was when I got the Rx7 it was ugly as hell. I was going to paint it that GEO storm green. But the guy who painted it ran out. But he had a half gallon of Ford motor blue. We painted it ford engine blue. Everyone knew who I was and what that car was capable of. I ended up blowing out the...
Thats exactly why back in the late 80s early 90's I stayed away from the mustangs. Everyone had them and I mean EVERYONE. The others had Iroc Camaros. My I went by way of Japan with a street ported 12A Mazda Rx7. That little car would smoke most factory V8 cars with no issue.
When I take the roadrunner out. And its not even my car. But I do have my own set of keys to it. I get thumbs ups every where I go. Every redlight People are taking pictures. If I drove a mustang the only people that would throw me a thumbs up have fanny packs and a man bun.
The supercharger is the difference. If the 440 was procharged or turbo it woulld be a world of difference. You just compared an apple to an orange. Its like putting your cobra up vs the TESLA Plaid model. That Electric car would eat the cobra alive. Torque right off the start and lots of it.
You could drop the decals and the Weld wheels and save 10k. I know its a hell of a car I was just stating that wheels and a set of decals is a 10k upgrade.
I know a guy... He has a pretty bad *** Hemi powered PT. Maybe he will chime in. I have a picture of it but its his ride and wouldn't post a picture unless he approves.
I wonder if anyone ever mills the valve cover side of the heads to fix the issues. I had some 452's that in one spot the valve cover ridge was almost a knifes edge while the rest was flat. I guess its all about QC back then.
I totally agree. If you are using stock style valve covers make sure to get the bolt holes flattened out and not all crushed in. Helps make a better seal.
