engine for my Durango..... scratch that, Dakota resurrection instead

The majority of us members do not have the skills nor the space to bring a wreck back to this point. When you have the skills, you make the hard work look easy to the rest of us. One thing that truly determines the success of a job is the confidence, skill and experience of the person doing the...

    borgeson steering box

I don't mean to be rude but the Borgeson swap is one of the more popular upgrades that is done to these cars. This forum is CHOCK full of other threads that cover this. You can do a search of the forum for BORGESON and several threads will pop up. In short, YES you can use the stock pump IF it...

Road noise and how to reduce it

I refused to pay for Dynamat. I went with a generic alternative. It is from half way up the firewall, across the floor and under the rear seat. I put strips in the doors on the inside of the outer skin. Same behind the quarter windows. If I would have been thinking, I would have put it on the...

Road noise and how to reduce it

I only have urethane in the strut rods and sway bars. The upper control arms were rubber bushings until I swapped in the QA 1 UCAs. Imperials had exhaust manifolds, a closed element air cleaner, mild cam, most of the time a single exhaust system that was much quieter. They also had taller tires...

engine for my Durango..... scratch that, Dakota resurrection instead

In May of last year I bought this: That is a 100,000 mile 5.7 from a wrecking yard. $2250. I went through the heads but the bottom end checked out okay. I bought it as a replacement for my truck.... I haven't needed it yet: I'm happy about that.

    KYB vs Monroe vs Bilstein?

Revalving makes sense. Some shocks simply move with the suspension in a relatively straight line like our front shocks do. The rears on our cars travel in an angle due to the mounting design our cars have. A shock that dampens just fine in a Camaro may not be enough to work on our rear axle. The...

    KYB vs Monroe vs Bilstein?

Firm Feel sells a version of Bilstein that are called RCD for Race Car Dynamics. I suspect that they farm out the shocks to this smaller company that modifies them for proper fitment to our cars.

    Power steering Install

No, the column must come out. Don't be afraid, it isn't outside of your skill level. The steering box is sandwiched in between the column and the K member. You have to pull the column rearward to allow the steering box to also move back to come out.

    KYB vs Monroe vs Bilstein?

I had KYBs in this car: Yeah...that was the late 80s. Stock leaf springs and station wagon front coils cut down. It rode okay but not great. When I got this car together.... I went with 1.0 torsion bars and KYBs. The ride was stiff but I thought it was the thicker torsion bars that caused...

    KYB vs Monroe vs Bilstein?

Years back, a shock absorber engineer posted about the difference in designs of the various shocks. The best shocks were built with a progressive design where they get firmer toward the end of their range of travel. The first 1/3 of their movement, they are soft but then firm up as they reach...

    KYB vs Monroe vs Bilstein?

KYBs are the worst. If you have stock torsion bars and leaf springs, they are okay but still stiff. If you step up to larger torsion bars and leafs, they feel terrible. They are a LOT cheaper because they are inferior.

Road noise and how to reduce it

I wasn't going to shut the engine off and risk locking the ignition/steering! The Charger hood actually sits lower. The Challenger is a "thicker" car and taller as well. I don't have any side by side pictures of the front, just this one: I have 13" front brakes. I can't put a wheel smaller...

Road noise and how to reduce it

The 500 and R/T models came with the aluminum trim panel around the taillights. In 50+ years of ownership, any one of the previous owners could add one or weld over the mounting holes where one used to be.

Road noise and how to reduce it

I was out in the Jigsaw Charger and the red one yesterday. The red car has newer weatherstrips, better sound deadening and carpet and newer tires and was still louder going down the road. Jigsaw was relatively composed. It has a 383 with a 280/474 cam, nothing too wild. At 65-70, It was just...

Differential width question and a bonus question

The differential is the center section. The axle housing is the concern. The 68-70 B unit is narrower by several inches. You'd have to relocate the spring pads and even then, it may be a tight fit. You'd need wheels with much more offset to avoid rubbing the leaf springs.
