Come on, man…..You didn’t read the opening post. The OP is asking about the NEW generation of Hemi engines.
I agree that the 440 was a viable option for their lacking the ability and desire to tune their carburetors.
The appeal of a 3G Hemi is strong for good reason.
I have one in the 2007 Ram....it is over 399,000 miles.
I'm not a purist for these cars. If something comes along that has clear advantages, I give it consideration. My red car has a few modern changes like 4 wheel disc brakes and a 5 speed...
Just looking at the numbers, the new stuff is rated at a net number while the old stuff was a gross rating.
A 5.7 rates between 340 HP and 395 depending on the model vehicle that it was in, the year it was as well.
Torque matters too, of course.
Every vehicle that the 5.7 Hemi was installed in...
I can understand the appeal.
I do prefer the rumble and vibration of a classic Big Block. The shaking and the sounds just draw me in.
The reliability of a modern engine is tempting though. The fuel economy is great, the power is great and they run well even on mid grade gas. If the electronics...
There is no denying the efficiency of a new Hemi. Power, mileage and clean running compared to the older engines. One thing that holds me back is that I think that I'd miss the rougher idle and raspy exhaust tone you get with a classic engine. To me, that is part of the appeal of a classic...
The guy is gone. He came on here and instantly had a chip on his shoulder ready to fight. Three posts in this one thread over six weeks ago.....He probably won't be back.
I'd bet you money that your numbers on the 2016 car are off the mark. This is the first time that I have read of a 5.7 car breaking into the 12s. How did you get the 3.90 axle? The A8 has such a deep first gear, the Hellcat got a 2.62 axle, the 5.7 Challengers got a 3.06.
FBBO member Darius has a 70 GTX with a 5.7 and the NAG 5 speed automatic. He has raced at Sacramento raceway but I don't know his ETs. Once or twice, I have considered a 3G Hemi swap but to me, they just don't have the soul of the classic engines.
Plus, I'm cheap.
